A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Either, or, both.

Thanks for the recs, that’s exactly what I was looking for.

Vidalia Mills was a cool story, but it appears to have come to a close. Thier assets were auctioned off by the Parish Sheriff last week. Inside the Fight to Save American Selvedge Denim | GQ

I have some jeans and shorts from these people. Not exactly fashion-forward, but the secure pockets are as advertised.

I like Tx Monthly for lot of things, but every issue has a little writeup of some Texan who makes things by hand.

Levis 501 shrink-to-fit are close to $100. All their other jeans are trash.

Well, fuck. Vidalia was perhaps the last good hope for domestically produced selvage denim at any kind of scale.

@Lefty - this is a good list of premium denim made in the USA. Add Left Field, who’s here in the Bay Area, to that list as well:

I’ve heard decent things as well about Rustic Dime and Wiesmade, which are a bit more modestly priced.

Levi’s, sadly, are absolutely fucking terrible. Haven’t worn any in God knows how long. My last pair barely lasted a year.

Yep. I think my last pair lasted 9 months.

Were they original shrink-to-fit button fly 501? Because if not they’re not, they’re just rag material.

Very good list there. I can personally vouch for Railcar, and Telleson, 3Sixteen and Rogue Territory from their second list at the bottom. These companies all use denim that wears and lasts very well. Railcar is cool because they have a very inexpensive darning service for holes and repairs…when you inevitably blow out the crotch area.

Unfortunately, 90% of the world’s best denim is made in Japan these days. And most of these companies are sourcing from Japanese mills. My personal favorite denim brand, Iron Heart - also Japanese, makes ridiculously overbuilt jeans that last for many years of hard wear (and their prices reflect it).

In case you missed it, over the weekend someone set fire to the PA governor’s mansion with Gov. Shapiro and his family inside. Thankfully no one was hurt and they have someone in custody.

Interestingly, the media is referring to this as “attempted arson” and not “attempted assassination”.

The market is dumping US bonds. This is really, really bad.

I have read that it’s not just because Trump is a lunatic and maniac; it’s because the world has lost faith in a country whose electoral system can allow a lunatic and maniac to become president. Twice.

It’s a hard argument to counter. We cannot be a good long term bet, especially if, say, it was an option to call an election right now, and he could still win.

Team Trump continues to thumb its nose at the courts over Abrego Garcia. Ordered to provide daily updates (including weekends), Judge Xinis laid down three core instructions to the administration: (1) the briefing is by someone familiar with the case; (2) they provide an update on Garcia’s whereabouts and condition; and (3) they provide a summary of what has been done since the previous day’s briefing to facilitate his return.

At the first briefing, the representative claimed not to be familiar with the details of the situation, had no knowledge of activity to facilitate Garcia’s return and as to his circumstances could say only that he was alive and in custody of El Salvador. So 1-3, and the “1” is pretty generous. At Saturday’s and Sunday’s briefings, Team Trump went a combined 0-6.

It’s getting to the time when Xinis will need to order the bailiff to take the Trump admin lawyer into custody for contempt. Hopefully that time is 5pm this afternoon.

Balmer’s mother, Christie Balmer, told CBS News her son is “mentally ill and he went off his medication.”

Christie Balmer said she tried to get her son “picked up” last week and reached out to four different police departments but “couldn’t get anybody to help. So he was mentally ill, went off his meds, and this is what happened.”

The mansion burned. That’s not attempted arson, it’s successful arson and attempted murder.

Rolled into work and bumped into a protest here at the Federal Building here in VT. I’d estimate 400-ish people focused on Israeli-Palestinian issues. There are also rolling Fed enterprise reduction protests each weekend scattered throughout. What are you all seeing where you live? Not what you hear about in the news. Seeing yourselves.

I hope those protesters like pupusas.

Here’s another possible reason. Maybe it wasn’t such a bright idea to unleash neo-Nazi’s afterall. Lest anyone reading the headline is guessing that the teen is a left wing extremist, the article explains that the group he belongs to is:

" “The Order of Nine Angles,” which is “a network of individuals holding new-Nazi racially motivated extremist views,” according to investigators.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation reviewed documents allegedly written by the teen, which calls for the assassination of Trump and the start of a revolution to “save the white race,” according to federal court documents. "
