The is a Robert Morris University in the Pittsburg metro area. No affiliation but probably embarrassed by the notoriety.
I got a text last night from Cory Booker at 8:36! I can’t tell, but he may have sent it to me from the Senate floor!
Man, am I special!
That Robert Morris, one of only two people to sign the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution, is rolling over in his grave.
Basically, a couple of representatives (Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) and Brittney Pettersen (D-Colo.)) decided that it would be good to allow new parents in the House to vote remotely using a proxy, and so they put together a rule allowing for a 12-week proxy voting period around the birth of a child. You might remember Pettersen as the woman who flew from Colorado with her newborn to vote against the budget about a month ago.
Speaker Johnson–a self-described “pro-family” guy–was having none of it. He did some procedural hokey pokey to prevent it from coming to a vote, but Luna teamed up with some Dems to overcome that using a “discharge petition,” which garnered support from a majority of the members of the House.
Then Johnson tried to kill the discharge petition by adding some language to unrelated bills that were going up first. That got knocked down, too, with 9 Republicans (all dudes) willing to break with the Speaker. To quote one of those Republicans: “voting against pregnant women – are you all crazy?”
Johnson responded by canceling all votes, taking his ball, and going home.
He’s such a pipsqueak runt of a prick.
His rationale made no sense, either. “You circumvented my procedural block on this minor issue therefor we can’t move forward with any of the other important work of the chamber this week”, implying that they are somehow connected. Or, probably just hoping his base would not check his rationale.
Trying to apply logic or political savvy to Johnson is often a fool’s errand, but…
I can only think that he is somehow trying to shame those who stood up to him in the hope that they get phone calls from the MAGA base and/or the Dear Leader.
If I were one of these idiots I would support the rule and then run around to every conceivable network that would have me on which is all of them and say See? We love and support women! but I guess I’m not the political strategery genius that this guy is.
I also don’t text my son every time I see a dirty picture so I guess there are a couple of differences at work.
Hey, her womb has already allowed a man’s seed to find purchase. Her purpose as a woman is already fulfilled.
Trump has delayed us all being liberated from our hard-earned money. He moved the announcement back an hour until after the markets close.
So we will be spared seeing the destruction of wealth in real time in the chyron as he’s speaking.
The market seems unaffected by the pending announcement. Or it could be the calm before the storm.
I’m going with the latter.
Word is Musk has worn out his welcome. Apparently, he didn’t generate the stroke in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election Trump was expecting, and he’ll be “stepping back”. He avoided the naughty list for a whole 3 months, which ain’t half bad for a Trump man. Of course, this also corresponds to his period of exemption from ethics and conflicts of interest rules…you know, him not being a government employee or anything.
It’s not like he doesn’t have other matters to attend to.

Tesla sales plunge: Biggest decline in history
CNN — Tesla sales plunged 13% in the first three months of this year, the largest drop in deliveries in its history, as backlash against CEO Elon Musk and growing competition took a large bite out of demand for its EVs.
While Musk may be on the way out…

Well, whatever Trumpy said tanked the market 2.5% in five minutes or so so I’m thinking that people are starting to realize that imposing tariffs is not always great for an economy.
Also, Tesla was up fairly significantly today on the news that Edolf might spend more time presiding over the company now that he’s unencumbered by the responsibilities of denying cholera treatments to African communities and so on, and the market’s reaction puzzles me.
Well, the elevator’s still going down, so we may well end up over a 3% drop, which, in a single after-hours session, is extraordinary. Of course, shooting yourself in the head with a nail gun is extraordinary, too, in most places.
Months, or years of pain for everyone, all in the hopes that we can once again make our own tee shirts, toilet paper and cars few will have the money to buy. The man has outstanding foresight and vision.
Sadly, we deserve it as a country, with politicians on both sides always playing up to the grievances of people unwilling to educate themselves/change jobs or move to different areas of the country.
From the day’s high of 5773.25 (which happened after hours as some wise guys bid it up just before the press conference) to a close just now of 5584.5, that’s a nice 188.75, or an eye opening 3.3% off the high. Nice work, Trumpy!
Hey, you know who devised and then enacted an enormous plan to domesticate the production of shit that really matters like semiconductors? That old guy they used to have in there, guy that sent the price of eggs sky high.
Hopefully next year we’ll all be catching Made in America Mardi Gras beads. Catch enough beads and it’ll take some of the sting out of a gallon of milk costing $17.
