Why anti-Elon Musk ads have appeared on London transport

Shoes on the other foot now…
Word is that Musk promised Trump another $100 million in campaign contributions for doing the Tesla commercial. The naked corruption of this administration is so naked that it could not be more naked.
In case you thought that Trump isn’t going to run again in 2028…
My sister owns a Tesla and has enjoyed driving it and has never had an issue with it. She is a die hard dem, an anti Trumper, and hates Musk. She’s hanging in with her car. She previously had a Porsche and before that a Jag. She say the Tesla blows them away.
She’s received no pressure or shame for driving it, she doesn’t seem to care if she does. She drives it from Dallas to New Braunfels on a full charge. Stops at Buc-ee’s here in NB to recharge before going home. She not an apologist, her previous 2 car were expensive to maintain, after 3 years her Tesla has been maintenance free. She did recently have to replace the tires.
I know that lots of people are selling their Teslas in protest, but that seems to be the very definition of performative. Elon already got his money, you’re not hurting him.
I’ve also seen people saying you should refuse an Uber ride if they’re driving a Tesla, and that to me is just wrong. You think an Uber driver can afford to sell their car at a loss and go buy another? You’re hurting g someone’s livelihood for something they had no part I.
Elmer Fuddpucker should sell that new F-350 dually he just bought and go snag himself a Cybertruck. Sure, he took out a third mortgage on the double wide to buy it, but what kind of American isn’t willing to sacrifice his grandchildren’s future to own the libs?
People can do with their Teslas what they will. I will look a bit sideways at anyone choosing to buy a Tesla now, mostly because of Elon but also because there are better and/or cheaper EVs out there. The Tesla design for the Model 3/Y is almost a decade old now, and the stubborn adherence to the minimalist interior is ludicrous compared to rival brands.
On the flip side, Tesla is a US-owned and based car manufacturer; we should be wanting it to succeed. What we should be hoping for is Elon being booted as CEO - which would’ve happened years ago if he hadn’t stacked the board with cronies. I remain shocked that they haven’t been buried in an avalanche of derivative suits, but they may be coming after what has gone on over the last few months.
If people feel comfortable driving their Tesla then have at it. If they are uncomfortable because of Musk and now want to sell it, go ahead but the market is going to be slim. I’m not going to judge anyone driving a Tesla and I’m not going to refuse rides in one.
Of course, none of the above applies to CyberTrucks. If you have one of those monstrosities, you deserve whatever misery comes your way.
The cyber truck… I just don’t get it. I see them more and more. I just don’t get it
Statement vehicle, pure and simple.
I also don’t understand why someone drives a diesel dually to H-E-B
Freedom.
So in case we all missed it…Canada backed down and removed the electricity surcharge when Trump threatened more tariffs. Score one for Trump’s bullying tactics.
Bottom line is…Canada cannot win a trade war with the U.S. We know it, they know it. All they can do is kick a few people in the shins. This is so royally fucked up.
Because the Cybertruck needs charging.
And yet…
That’s the kicking in the shin part. The U.S. economy is 10 times as big as Canada’s. The U.S. per capita GDP is twice that of Canada. Over 60% of everything imported into Canada is from the U.S. Nearly 80% of their exports are to the U.S. It’s the reality.
Time to stock up on Bordeaux and Chianti. And get on the Turley mailing list!

I imagine that the elasticity of demand is on the side if the Euros here; I don’t see them being particularly bothered about the price of California wine going up (its already too expensive anyway). I don’t think there’s much of a market in Europe for Bourbon.
I doubt the converse will be true. A 200% sales tax on French and Italian wines - as you already highlighted - will be unpopular. But this will also hit a broad range of alcohols, like whisky, whiskey, vodka, gin, vermouth and on and on.
Beer is the most extreme, but also the most limited, case. American beer is almost universally ridiculed in Europe, while European beer has a relatively small footprint in the US.

The fact that I saw Bud/Miller/Coors taps at just about every bar in Ireland I went to and in more than a few places in Munich in 2019 would suggest otherwise, but hey, you’re the Limey.
Was anyone drinking them? They’re all owned by global conglomerates these days, so the fact that American products are on tap in Europe doesn’t mean that they are wanted.
