Listening to the weasel Mike Johnson whine about Democrats not supporting the bill, it sounds like he might not have the votes. At a minimum, he’s definitely feeling the heat.

This week of week’s for the GOP is going to end with them shutting down the government. For all Johnson’s whining, this is the one thing that the American people consistently and correctly blames on the party in power.
ETA: Even if they don’t shut down the government, there’s still a non-zero chance that Musk has cancelled Social Security payments for people who he believes should not be receiving them because he doesn’t under how Social Security works.
And I’d like a pony. The notion of a ‘liberal media’ is as laughable as the idea of a far left in American politics. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, formerly important, respectable and serious newspapers are now fully in the bag for Trump and Elon. Coverage is being controlled by ownership, and that is only slightly less sinister than its being controlled by the state.
Televised news media is corporate owned. They don’t do journalism, they do spectacle, and Trump and Elon are nothing if not spectacle.
And anyway, you could spend the next four years trying to explain basic economic principles in the most simplistic way possible to the 33% but they would never bother to pay attention.

What’s the lead time on building a new steel or aluminum plant and necessary support infrastructure? I’d be willing to bet it’s pretty close to four years, and no CEO with a functioning brain is going to sign off on such a project when the tariffs that might make such a project viable are nearly guaranteed to disappear within four years. Not that I would expect Trump to follow that train of thought to its logical conclusion.

Trump is imposing tariffs because he’s an ignorant bully, not because he thinks it’s really going to bring back manufacturing.
He’s pitching a shit fit like a 5-year old in the candy aisle expecting people to give in and give him stuff. This time, though, the world sees him for what he is and is telling him “no”.
