A Republic, If You Can Keep It

State media for the Democratic People’s Republic of North America is going to have some trouble with windows if this keeps up:

There is no such thing as ‘far left’ in American politics. ‘Far left’ is a Republican construct based largely in their identity politics fever dreams; pretending along with these pigfuckers that it actually exists is allowing them to dictate the rules of the game. It’s exactly what I was talking about earlier. Support for the ACA is not far left. Protection of Medicaid is not far left. Maintaining the integrity of the Department of Education is not far left.

If these idiots can make it plain that they care more about average voters than they do about corporations or billionaires or Israel, they’ll win. Of course, it would help if they began to care more about average voters than they do about corporations or billionaires or Israel.

As I have said before, even Margaret Thatcher at the height of her popularity knew not even to glance sideways at the National Health Service. If she had proposed something like ObamaCare, she would’ve been run out of office on a rail.

The left-center-right designations in US politics, anywhere else in the world, would be center-right-extreme right.

Exactly. Bernie is a poster child for ineffective.

That remaining 3rd is made up of 1) disenfranchised (sometimes intentionally), 2) disaffected and 3) disengaged. That remaining 33% is NOT far left. If that does not resonate with you, do two things: 1) consider that the Progressive Left makes up only 7% of eligible voters and a non-zero contingent of them choose to no-vote or split-vote for fringe candidates rather than vote for established Dem candidates. There’s no way to get to anywhere near that remaining 33% number. And, 2) spend just a little time, maybe 30 seconds, thinking about each of the “dis” groups I suggested. I am no political scientist but, as I talk to friends and family and colleagues and strangers that reveal to me that they did not vote, the VAST majority of them fit pretty neatly into one of those categories. And, I live in Vermont, the bastion of the Progressive Left.

Never said far left. As Chucky pointed out, what the GOP et al has designated as the “far left” is people who want things like universal healthcare, which is such a radical concept that it has only been implemented by 32 of the 33 developed nations.

All the anecdotal evidence I gathered post-election came down to one thing: gender. The vast majority of people on the fence said they voted for Trump simply because there was no way in holy hell they were voting for a woman. They would have gladly voted for Biden, but not Harris. And this was even more prevalent among women voters. That is not left or right or ideological.

Good catch. I hear that all the time too. Though I have no cutesy “dis” title for that though. Although, I’m sure I have a pretty easy-to-detect “WTH???” look on my face when men and women say that to me.

Gusting.

Hakeem and Mutumbo would block all b.s. legislation and open up foreign aid.

There’s still always a tweet:

FAFO’s poster child.

ICE profiles Hispanic people? Who knew?

Trump wants to leave NATO. NATO may be ok with that.

The US will not be represented at a summit of military officials in Paris on March 11, where discussions will focus on the creation of international security forces for Ukraine. They were not invited, according to the Associated Press.

Soooo much finding out going on:

Michigan voted for Trump and is about to get a 25% increase in electricity prices. Why? Because Michigan gets its electricity from Canada, and Canada - Ontario specifically - is going to impose a 25% tax on electricity sales to the US.

Since it’s now apparent he’s going to tank the economy, I’d like to see some reporters finally dig down further with him (or his aides since they’re too scared of him) on just how they expect tariffs to produce a “glorious renewal.” The reporters always stop at the point where Trump says it will force companies to manufacture in America and never press further. Will it really? How would those expensive, tariff infected products we then produce be competitive with other countries?

Like all things Trump, it’s all fantasy underlain by stupidity, equivalent to drinking bleach.

And here I thought they were going to target the Irish.

Exactly. No one makes him follow through on the logic.

And anything made here will automatically be more expensive than the foreign products we tariffed into oblivion. So prices go up no matter what, and that’s not even accounting for the mind-boggling cost of bootstrapping such manufacturing capacity.

Also, without immigrants, who’s going to make all this stuff? Musk’s robots?

When are they going to do something about the Welsh?

Yeah but has anyone done more for adding tasty ethnic cuisine in this country while being unjustly persecuted than the Italians and Mexicans? I mean I like a good paella or shish kabob but just not as much.
