I’m rewatching Letterkenny.
It’s great stuff and will suck you in.

KPFT 90.1 in Houston can be hit or miss, but today’s Lone Star Jukebox show was all Flaco today. Great stuff including a great interview with Joe Nick Patoski telling some great stories. Available here for a couple weeks: https://archive.kpft.org/

I usually enjoy Lone Star Jukebox in small portions, but Rick really knocked it out of the park today. Great interview, great show.

I pissed next to Lyle Lovett in the Albuquerque airport. “Stars, they’re just like us!”

I’m took a leak with Darrell Royal next to me at the old Mueller Airport in Austin in ‘97.
He then squeezed off a fart, chuckled, looked at me grinning and said, “That’ll help a guy.”

one of my favorite sportswriter stories is from Feinstein maybe…he’s in Vegas for a fight and happens upon Don King at the urinals. They go to the sinks, Don touches up his hair and goes to leave. Guy say, “Don, you’re not going to wash your hands?”

“Son, I wash my hands before I touch my dick.”

Reminds me of the George Carlin line “if you have to wash your hands after you touch your dick maybe you should wash your dick”. Of course, I can’t find anything anywhere that says it’s from him but I’m pretty sure that’s where I heard it.

I was pissing behind the parking lot at the Bijou in San Antonio around 1975. It was about 2:30am. Toby Beau had been playing that night. They were very popular at that time. Willie Nelson had come in to see them. Right about 2am, Willie gets on the stage and says, “I’m going to play 2 songs, then you have to get out of here.”
He played them, and we dispersed, as was the agreement. Back to my piss, I’m standing in front of my car, where the parking lot ended, turning into caliche, and Willie walks up to join in on the impromptu release.
After a bit, I summoned the courage to comment, “Ain’t this wonderful?” He replied, “ Yessir.” While there was a minute connection, in my mind, it did not involve our streams.

WKRP is a classic show that for some reason last I checked is not available to stream anywhere

It’s because of the music, they’d have to get licenses to play anything now, and the show was full of contemporary music (as you know). So, it’s too expensive to put them out. At least, that’s what I heard.

Same reason the greatest show ever created, Northern Exposure, wasn’t available until just recently. The music rights are very complicated and expensive.

Helluva ride, he had.

A fine man who always seemed so down to earth in every interview he gave that I saw or read.

Obviously, the moon landing in July 1969 and Apollo 13 (In which he was the commander) receive the most headlines and acclaim (And deservedly so). However, that first mission ever so close to the moon, Apollo 8 left quite an impression on a then 8 year old. The fact that Borman, Lovell and Anders were broadcasting live on Christmas Eve near the moon’s surface was pretty dramatic. As I recall, they read a few lines from Genesis. Quite a mission.

Danielle Spencer, who played the wisecracking tattletale little sister Dee on the 70s sitcom What’s Happening?

Spencer, 60, died after a decade-long battle with breast cancer. She was one of those child actors who didn’t go down the dark road, mostly retiring from acting in her college-age years to become a veterinarian.

This gives me the opportunity to let everyone know that the Menil has several of their Magrittes in the foyer for the next 5 days. It’s amazing to see them in the full light as opposed to the darkened room where they usually are displayed. Foyer Installation: René Magritte - Menil
