Just watched the Netflix documentary about the Apollo 13 mission last night.
Good stuff.

If you are a space wonk and haven’t already read Gene Kranz’s book, I highly recommend it. It has some great insights into the entire space program. Smylie was one of hundreds that saved the 13 crew.

ā€œI’m a simple man, I don’t ask for much. Give me a nice comfortable chair, a cool breeze, a ballgame on the radio and an ice-cold beer, and I couldn’t be happier,ā€ Wendt wrote to open the book.

ā€œTruth be told, if it came down to it, I could live without the chair. A cool breeze is nice, but it isn’t exactly mandatory for a good time. And there are plenty of times when I don’t have access to a ballgame.

ā€œBut a world without beer? I don’t know if that’s the kind of world I want to live in.ā€

ā€œFor beer?ā€
ā€œNo, for stupid questions.ā€

I loved Cheers and of course Norm.

In honor of his bar mate, here’s a little known fact:

Jason Sudekis is George Wendt’s nephew.

Whoa

Morn, the character that’s always at Quark’s Bar in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, was inspired by Norm.

Well, we know the cause of death.

Oops, wrong thread.

Not quite as little known a fact, but Wendt passed away on the 32md anniversary of the last episode of Cheers.
