I wonder: is Diaz coming up on any pension-significant milestones for games played or days rostered or anything like that? Maybe the Astros are trying to get him to some milestone before cutting him loose.
I’m no expert, but he just cleared seven years of service time after last season. That put him three years past the threshold for full health benefits and three years away from the threshold for full pension. Not sure of anything else that might be imminent other than quarterly accruals.

Dana Brown said a couple of months ago that Whitcomb’s “future is in the OF”. But he can still play IF spots if needed.
So I have no idea what the plan is.
I don’t care as long as his future includes getting hits.
