Yikes is right (that was my senior year of college).
This one stings. Terri Garr was always a boyhood crush of mine growing up because of seeing The Black Stallion in the movie theater as a little kid. I loved her in Young Frankenstein as well- she was superb.
I have fond memories of telling my parents I was “sick” so I could stay home from school in 6th grade in ‘85, sneaking a small black and white TV into my room and watching her on Letterman one time and her telling Dave, “that’s possible bullshit” in her interview which caught him off guard and made him laugh.
His Facebook page had a nice clip of her today.
They had some great chemistry.
Each year this thread cuts closer to home.
Godspeed, Teri Garr.
Quincy Jones, 91.
Such a talented musician. I went through a large part of my life thinking that the song over the intro to “The Italian Job” was a classic crooner staple before I found out that it was something he just knocked out for the movie.
A great man. Was a damn fine trumpet player before his brain aneurism forced him to quit playing. He also married well, Ulla Anderson, Peggy Lipton and Nastassja Kinski.
A musical genius!
Well, they can’t all be bangers
It was plot appropriate.
Saxophone great Lou Donaldson has died at age 98. I’m going to play some Blues Walk to remember Sweet Lou. RIP.
Bobby Allison, 86.
Former USC and NFL coach John Robinson, 89.
Bela Karolyi, 82
Alice Brock, made famous in Arlo Guthrie’s song “Alice’s Restaurant” has died.
The NY Times frequently emails out a playlist named The Amplifier, sometimes new songs, sometimes theme lists like songs mentioning a baseball player or songs for Halloween. . . I listened to the Quincy Jones playlist today. He arranged the Frank Sinatra/Count Basie “Fly me to the Moon”, which has to be one of the greatest recordings ever. He produced the Thriller LP. He produced Leslie Gore’s “It’s My Party” and wrote “The Sanford and Son Theme”. What an excellent career.
Thanks for this. I whistle this at least once a week. I had no idea. Link to the playlist you just mentioned for Spotify users: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1scHtixMwzfX34GAgyMRGf?si=kIKaXnvUTaG4p6_uPR8zBg&pi=u-jrljDAuLRu2I
I had a couple of Quincy’s albums in the '70’s. Manteca was a great tune off of this album that had the Sanford and Son theme on it.
Chump Change is another tune on that album that is pretty good. I remember that back in the day, the San Antonio channel 5 news used a portion of Chump Change as part of the intro to their 5pm newscast.
Game show host, Chuck Woolery.
