fuuuuuuck
One of the absolute best.
Only one Highwayman left now.
I mean, just with āMe and Bobby McGeeā alone heās a treasure. what a supremely talented, low-key gentleman.
He really did it all.
Phi Beta Kappa, Rhodes Scholar, athlete, Army helicopter pilot, songwriter extraordinaire, actor, just an amazing guy.
Iāve touted this album before.
It may be my favorite of all time. I particularly like it on a melancholy weekend day.
First track into has Willie on Trigger and Mickey Raphael on the harmonica and theyāre both killing it. (Second link is full playlist)
Principles are only principles if you adhere to them not just when it is convenient, but when it is inconvenient.
Kristofferson stood against the backlash directed at Sinead OāConnerā¦and then wrote a song about it.
I would not have guessed he was 88. Certainly doesnāt seem that old in my memory. RIP.
Goddamnit.
Part of me very much wants to believe thatās a true story. What I do know is that Toby Keith and Willie were very good friends for many years.
I like this one:
āThat was about the last three years before I started performing, before people started cutting my songs. I would work a week down here [in south Louisiana] for PHI, sitting on an oil platform and flying helicopters. Then Iād go back to Nashville at the end of the week and spend a week up there trying to pitch the songs, then come back down and write songs for another week. I can remember āHelp Me Make It Through the Nightā I wrote sitting on top of an oil platform. I wrote āBobby McGeeā down here, and a lot of them [in south Louisiana].ā
Lone Star is a very underrated movie, btw
I loved him in Sam Peckinpahās, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Also good in Convoy, another Peckinpah film. Iām so amazed by the greatness and completeness of the life Kristofferson had
.
I was never a fan but Toby Keith was respected and liked by a lot on the left that got to know him. Colbertās tribute was very sweet. I wouldnāt shit on his grave.
The story of his friendship with Waymon Tisdale and his tribute at Tisdaleās funeral should be enough to cut him some slack.
Both artists had denied the incident, with Kristofferson stating he has no memory of it and Keith claiming it was fabricated.
I saw Toby Keith perform at the rodeo in Austin. āShit-faced drunkā is the nice way to describe him that night.
