2024-25 offseason

I haven’t viewed Tucker as not a leader or not respecting the game as others apparently have.

I have no idea about his respect for the Game, but I believe strongly he was not a leader.

Agreed but Bagwell was not above attempting to correct other players’ behavior with, “We don’t play like that here.” I never saw Tucker take charge like that. I love Tucker and hate to see him leave. But that’s baseball.

I don’t know how Tucker was viewed in the clubhouse or by his teammates. But I will say the outward facing persona of the game has changed quite a bit since Bagwell’s days. Bagwell nipped in the bud behaviors that are now considered pretty standard fare. I’m not sure if that means he would have tolerated more or if he’d be viewed as a grumpy old man in today’s game.

He underwent Tommy John Surgery the week of June 7. So, he wouldn’t realistically be an option until at least June but probably more likely post All-Star Break.

For the Astros to trade Framber, they have to either sign a competent replacement or acquire a replacement via trade. Of the teams that might want Framber in a trade, I don’t see many of them having a high-upside MLB pitcher they would be willing to give in return.

Wouldn’t shock me if Pressly goes the other way in an Arenado trade.

I don’t love the Arenado idea. He’s been in decline on both sides of the ball. He’s still been a good defender but not otherworldly like he had been and his bat has seen a sharp decline over the last two seasons.

Disagree. Cole wanted to walk, but Springer was pretty clearly told he wasn’t in the team’s future plans.

None of these things happen in a vacuum.

The club knew what Springer’s market value was and THAT was what they weren’t interested in as opposed to George the player.

My feeble memory was that that Springer told them it was gonna take something extraordinary for him to stay because he was still kinda pissed at them and they told him they just couldn’t make it happen. It was more or less a mutual decision.

IIRC they never got to the offer stage, probably a result of conversations exactly like that. Springer may have hated Luhnow like a lot of the players did, but Luhnow was gone by that time. I don’t think it was lingering bad blood so much as an obvious mutual understanding that the money wasn’t going to be there for him.

For Tucker, it’s probably fair to say that for Tucker’s teams the leadership posts were pretty well filled. There were plenty of guys to make the H-E-B ads. He never had reason to be the leader. That wasn’t true for Bagwell.

Fair enough

The Homeless Athletics just picked up Jeffrey Springs from the Rays. AL West getting better.

Playing soft-toss with LMJ?

One of the most brutal Twitter replies I ever saw was in a thread about LMJ’s last injury:

“Oh, the Bury Me in the H guy? Somebody grab a shovel…”

I need to find the interaction from a week or so, but “my friend” said

Paraphrasing from memory:

Tucker is a different guy. Always took direction well and nobody ever complained about him not doing what instructed, just never anything extra.

Lots of outside interests and it would not surprise anyone in the organization if he just walked away in 6 years and decided to spend his money instead of continuing to make more.

This seems like good info, but the typos are keeping from really getting what you’re saying…

Not trying to be a dick. Genuinely curious… I was hoping your friend would provide context soon.
