Well that was the wrong video to watch before bed. I may not sleep tonight.
Limey/Ray, this reminds me of my days being based in Dulles, Oâhare and Newark.
I donât miss that cross-wind/gusty shit out there, one fucking iota.
Thereâs a reason I voluntarily put up with commuting from Austin to LA so as to fly mainly west coast and Hawaii, and so that I wonât have to deal with the East Coast, Midwest and SE U.S. weather- Iâve checked alllllllllllllllll those boxes, many, many times.
We had to de-ice in Reno the other day. Big deal. I used to do that multiple times a day flying from Oâhare to the small towns in the midwest.
This video reminds me of crosswind landings- not pretty, stay on speed, donât throttle-jockey, know the flight control input on rollout, and sure as shit, go the fuck around if need be/live to fly another day.
But, yeah, these things fly themselves.
I said the same thing when ESPN Classic once had on late, the â92 AFC Wildcard beloved Houston Oilers meltdown against the fucking bills (don beebe stepped out of bounds).
Like the man said: you gotta know when to hold âem and when to fold âem.
Nothing to do with crosswinds or the Houston OilersâŚor death, for that matter, but aircraft tires are fucking awesome. I used to have to battle mesquite at the old place in Freestone County, and if youâve never dealt with mesquite in its live state and not just on the BBQ pit, it sucks donkey balls. It has long, nasty thorns which will puncture everything from skin to tractor tires. But aircraft tires? Fuck you, Jobu, and the thorny mesquite bush you rode in on. The greatest day of my tractoring life, aside from the day getting the tractor, was getting a pair of those puppies.
RIP
This sucks. First Griffâs and now SF?
Not Spanish Flowers, Spanish Village.
Different places, yes?
AhâŚphew!
Also, Spanish Flowers is now open on Shepherd near Washington. Not sure if it is another location or a relocation.
Google still counts Main Street as one of the three locations, which include âNorth Freewayâ and âDurham.â
Durham = Shepherd. They have two different names when it splits for the one-way traffic.
This always confused outside-the-loopers and out-of-towners. âIs it Shepherd or Durhamâ? Which way are you facing?
AlsoâŚre: Spanish Flowers: like Ninfaâs, thereâs no location like the original location.
You did not mention that Shepherd also splits at 59 . Where it becomes the one way part of Greenbriar.
HH, indeed, aircraft tires are a marvel of engineering.
They best be considering how many landings Iâve pranged on in my career
Itâs always struck me anomalous how major roads like Shepherd/Durham/Greenbriar and Bungle/Voss/Hilcroft have multiple names, but a tiny street like Chevy Chase, with multiple breaks in it, will keep the same name all the way to Brownsville.
I have to think that Oklahoma City would get a lot of votes for the Crosswind Hall of Fame.
Getting this thread back on track the hard wayâŚ
David Crosby, 81. Ouch.
Itâs wind shear central.
Great musician. Miserable human being. The former will be missed.
