I had to umpire softball last night, and in case you were wondering, it’s REALLY fucking hard to call a softball game while someone is streaming/playing a baseball game behind you that you really care about.

So Hoye’s mistakes were all “impactful” against the Astros?

Don’t need no fancy 'puter thingy to tell me that.

What I’m wondering is what was streaming behind Hoye.

Pretty sure he had a crayon stuck up his nose.

Maybe the home plate umpires have the same issue. Instead of hearing a game they care about, they are watching it. Wonder how often they have to get their eyes checked?

MAGA comments to the political thread please

I know you post these a lot, but I’m in the dark here. Is that pretty shitty?

My uneducated opinion is that while our postseason umps have been much better than regular season, that guy was more like a trashy regular season performance.

On the screenshot if you look at the part that says “relative accuracy” that is basically an umpires score vs what the average umpire would be expected to get. So in this game Hoye was .9% below what the average umpire’s accuracy rating would be expected to be.

If you look at each of the categories, it shows what the “average” percentage is what his numbers were, so you can judge his performance based on that.

Remembering that average means dead middle of the road, which isn’t really a high bar to clear, Hoy underperformed in just about every category except for calling balls balls, which is was dead on with league average.

Considering this is the postseason and there are only 16 total umpires left, being league average is pretty fucking awful as that’s coming in at around 50 out of 100.
