Well, isn’t that a kick in the balls.
I hate they way they use technology like this, but he’s offside. The rule is that it’s the measured off the most prominent part of the body that can be used to score a goal. That’s basically everything except the arm from the mid-upper arm down.
In this case, half of the attacker’s body is beyond the most rearward part of the defender’s body, being his arse, ironically.
This is wrong.
But right
I don’t know. Rugby matches are still 80 minutes of game time even though the referee now stops the clock for TMO reviews (primarily) and injuries. That’s much different from when I played and injury time was solely at the referee’s discretion.
That said, play will continue past the 80 minute mark until the attacking side scores or loses possession by taking the ball into touch, knocking the ball on, or committing a penalty. It’s usually (much) less than two minutes of added time, although I have seen the rare occasion where there’s over five minutes of continued play.
It could be that 80 minutes is the right number, but therein lies the rub. Getting 200+ member nations of FIFA to agree to the change and what the number should be going to be an ordeal.
Again, you don’t have to change from 90 minutes, you just have to take the guesswork out and actually make it 90 minutes. I honestly don’t understand why anyone would object.
I imagine it’s a generational thing. I would prefer it, but there would be a chorus of howls from the “the game’s gone” crowd who bemoan any and all progress.
I suppose guessing when the game will suddenly end without warning IS pretty exciting. Like a longer, more expensive version of “hot potato”.
Amazing to get out of the group. Played great defense throughout. Subs and goal creation need some work. But oh well, time to celebrate for now.
I like this aspect of stoppage time the most. It heightens the drama and often pressures the team to get men and the ball into the box which makes for a better end product in close games. See: South Korea vs Ghana this week.
So another honest question born of my soccer ignorance. Players wear cups, correct? If not, what the hell?
Legend.
Suck it, fascists…
They make “comfort” cups. Shudder at the thought of feet flying around my package. Nothing is more uncomfortable than having your nuts kicked up into you lungs. Being a catcher is safer that way.
I imagine running 8-9 miles in any cup would cause unfathomable chafing
