2022 roster

Really hate to see Siri go - lots of fun to watch. Probably the right move for the team

Myers is in the starting lineup tonight playing center and batting 9th.

Diaz is also starting at short.

Interesting.

Wow. They must both really like Dubon in CF and really believe that Jake is the guy.

I like it but didn’t see it coming.

It’s good to have another option at 1B while Yuli is struggling and a better LH PH option than Castro when he plays.

The ability to move Dubon around the field clearly gave him and edge over Chaz for roster security. I hate it for Chaz, but the depth the Astros have puts you in this position at times and for the organization, it’s a good thing.

Jake sure looked like the guy last year. When comparing him to Chaz and Siri, I think he’s just as good defensively and while the sample size is small, he showed last year he’s a better hitter overall. Might take him a while to get back in the groove against major league pitching, but the 2 for 4 yesterday had to help his confidence.

Neither Chas nor Siri got it going enough offensively for either demotion to surprise.

If/when they get called up again I think/hope they could hit better. The Astros don’t need Ken Griffey Jr numbers from that spot.

They don’t need top numbers, but they’re bottom of the majors across the board in CF.

A side note: for all the view nationally that Yordan is just a DH, he has 34 games at DH and 30 games in LF this year. Brantley has 35 games at DH (including today’s lineup) and 29 games in LF.

McCormick and Meyers are the same player. Remains to been seen if Jake is better.

And I don’t think Meyers is as good as Siri on defense.

I just looked at it - FanGraphs has the Astros as 10th in center field WAR, but only 21st in wRC+ (their primary offensive WAR component); they are far and away the tops in defensive WAR for CF.

Where is Kiermaier in that ranking? And Buxton, for that matter?

Buxton 8th, Kiermaier 18th (due to playing time). Our friend Myles Straw is the easy leader, followed by Siri.

I have to disagree. Jake is a much better fielder (though not as good as Siri) and he seems to have been a much more consistent hitter in the minors.

Comparing ability is not what I mean by “same player,” and I do not yet know who I think is better after Myers’ injury.

I would love to hear you elaborate on what you did mean by “same player” – sorry I misinterpreted the comment.

Throw left, bat right, good speed, good defense, some power, strike out too much, line drive hitter

I actually forgot Bielak was on the roster
