2022 roster

Nobody trades for a DH platoon.

Nelson Cruz is a dick.

Maybe Cruz is not the answer but I think this team needs a big RH bat to put between Alvarez and Tucker in the middle of the lineup.

Gurriel, Bregman, Pena, and whoever is in CF just isn’t that player. Not in 2022.

There are only so many impact RH bats that fit this team’s roster.

I think with Alvarez able to play LF when Brantley sits that Cruz could be a difference maker.

And Brantley has been bad against LH pitching since 2020 and is getting worse each year.

Correct.

Ok.

Not the first and certainly not the last time.

The other thing with any trade is the cost of the trade. The Astros farm is thin. I don’t think it is as bad as all the rankings because, hmmm, players keep coming up and make a difference in the majors.

Most Astros trades over the last few years have worked out well on that end. To get Verlander, the Astros gave up Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron, and Jake Rogers. Perez was the key piece and never made it to the majors. Daz is playing in the majors but below replacement level. Rogers has been the best part of the trade for the tigers but he is out with TJ surgery. Big get with little cost. Though at the time, Perez was the #2 prospect (again rankings = guesses)

But the Fiers/Gomez trade for Josh Hader/Adrian Houser/Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana trade didn’t work out on so many levels.

The next time you pitch a trade, consider thinking which prospect(s) would be given up to make that happen. It is a much more complex process than just saying this player seems to fit. That is just the start.

I thought we agreed to never speak of this again.

Join the club. Most of my grand predictions are way wrong.

I thought Chance Mock had much more potential than VY.

Wow, you get kudos for admitting that. I saw VY in a couple of HS playoff games, and I thought he was an alien from another planet.

Same here, I’ve still never seen anything like him, in either HS or college

I didn’t think that trading for a 42 yr old DH only player who will be a FA at years end would cost enough to really debate the prospect cost

My Astro prediction: the club brought 19-year old Cedeno up too soon, and he will never amount to anything now.

Point to a trade that had significant impact that didn’t have a cost.

Getting Francisco Liriano in 17 cost Teoscar Hernandez. That was a minimal impact trade and it cost a guy who has won two silver slugger awards.

Yes, that was a very high price for an ineffective pitcher for the Dodgers.

Like the trade still. The idea that Teoscar would break out like that never entered my head.

Patience may be the best. There are several guys in the lineup with good track records that are slumping or under-producing. Give it some time. If Yuli and Bregman are hitting .220 in late July or August, we may have a problem. Yuli won the batting title last year. He is bound to get hot at the plate.

Not convinced. Both his swing and Brantley’s look significantly slower.
