Optioned today was Josh James but again was a guy not projected to make OD roster.
Wonder if Peña will open the season at SS. He has done well in ST.
Looks that way.
Has Bregman played any short this spring?
I have not followed it closely enough, but I do not think so.
Bregman has only played 3rd.
SS so far this spring before today.
Pena 4 games
Goodrum 3 games
Daiz 2 games
Then several NRIs with 1 or 2 games.
I have not found the innings.
I have not been impressed with Goodrum at all
0-9 with 8 Ks
I wasn’t a fan of the signing. I hope he gets better.
At least he’s staying out of double plays?
Why the heck do you care who they sign? Do you at least concede they know more than we do?

Blanco struck out two more batters in 1 ⅓ innings of work against the Mets on Wednesday. He has seven punchouts across 4 ⅓ frames of one-hit baseball during spring training. On Wednesday, his four-seam fastball sat at 96 mph paired with a cutter at 88.4 mph. “His stock was high before the spring,” Baker said after Wednesday’s 5-3 win against the Mets. “We had hoped he’d be as sharp as he is now because he had a great winter ball and came into camp ready. He’s nice and calm. We really liked what we’ve seen so far.” If not for the lockout, Blanco may not be an option at all. Prior to the work stoppage, the Astros did not protect him from selection in the Rule 5 draft. Some with the Astros expected Blanco to be selected by another team.
Seems like a Baez replacement. They may just have to cut bait with him.
They didn’t sign Goodrum to rely on his bat.
I completely concede that they know infinitely more than I do.
To answer your question, I care who they sign because I follow this team and baseball. I want them to do well and have opinions on who may fit with the team and do well helping them win.
I don’t understand why me having an opinion of whether I am a fan of a player or transaction or not is a problem for you.
Why WOULDN’T I care?
Does not bother me a bit, but I think it is weird to be upset because a team signed a going-to-be-seldom-used utility player.
The case for Goodrum is that he can play around the diamond, and he complements Aledmys well as a backup if Peña doesn’t work out at short (light as Goodrum’s bat may be, he’s historically hit lefties better than Aledmys). The front office clearly decided they preferred the Peña experiment to signing a high-end SS, and that means they needed a cheap backup like Goodrum. I don’t think he is materially better or worse than the other options in that category.
Diaz has the injury bugaboo to plan around too.
Exactly…I think he was insurance for two things…1) seeing Correa leave (done deal here) and 2) in the event Pena can’t take over for Correa successfully then Goodrum frees up Diaz to fill that gap.
I am not upset one bit.
I just said I wasn’t a fan of the move.
I guess you and I are just on different pages.
At least we can agree that it’s wonderful to have baseball and the Astros back !!
1 week till opening day.
WHAT!!!
How can you, a fan of the Astros, have an opinion about Astros’ personnel moves? My God!!! That’s crazy. This is probably the first time in history that a fan has had an opinion. Don’t you know there are people that know more than you?
Weird. Snarky comments shows me it is indeed a bother. Just don’t go near his yard!
Above was the comment I responded to, which was his second or third comment criticizing Click’s signing Goodrum. I am not the first nor will I be the last to express amazement about some sort of controversy about signing a utility player/26th man. If that is deemed to be snarky, well, so be it.
I suppose I could have been as eloquent as moriarty’s post, but I was not. He said:
