Thank god.
All 6 arbitration eligible players were tendered.
Andre Scrubb was outrighted to Sugarland to make room for Verlander.
I assume this means he cleared waivers.
What is this “chill” thing you speak of wise one?
The opposite of “anxious” or “worrying.”
To use it in a sentence:
“I worry about whether I’m sufficiently chill.”
I tried to remain calm about the chill having beans in it.
They didn’t announce it, but they didn’t fucking forget.
I’m surprised they didn’t get the Verlander deal nailed down before the work stoppage. Seems like a lot could change during that time, especially if this thing goes on for awhile.
Jeremy Pena report from LIDOM action via the Athletic ($)
Peña entered Thursday on a 16-for-48 streak. In his last 15 games, he has three doubles and a triple. He also has stolen four bases in six tries. But he continues to strike out frequently, totaling 15 in that span. Still, Peña, who was the Dominican league’s top rookie last year, has been an important cog for the league-leading Estrellas Orientales.
That is encouraging regarding Pena. But the Ks will destroy him in the ML if he doesn’t get that rate down. He may be further away than I realized. Maybe why Bregman is talking about playing SS.
Great to hear. Apparently the paperwork was submitted hours before the lockout, and I guess they’ve been working behind the scenes to get MLB and MLBPA to approve it despite the transaction pause.
Verlander can’t reply. kinda like a law case.Brother can.
Verlander does not exist. He is a current plsyer.
An unplayer
A 7-Up commercial in the works?
Those commercials are sooooo 1984
Not sure where to share, but i’m putting it here.
Besides the inevitable questioning why Crane didn’t re-sign Correa, Kaplan notes the bullpen situation currently (and I highlight again that teams are limited to just 13 pitchers this season)…
Hidden
As of now, Ryan Pressly, Ryne Stanek, Maton, Neris, Rafael Montero, Pedro Báez and Taylor account for seven of their eight reliever spots, health permitting. Stanek, Maton and Taylor are the only pitchers among the seven who can be optioned to the minor leagues, and all three are pitchers the Astros want to be entrenched on their major-league roster. So, effectively, they project to have seven relievers they can’t option plus an excess starter, likely Cristian Javier or Jake Odorizzi, in their bullpen. If MLB doesn’t expand rosters from 26 for the early part of the season, teams must carry 13 pitchers and 13 position players, meaning the Astros won’t be able to sacrifice a bench spot to carry an extra reliever as they did at times last season. Having a bullpen full of pitchers who can’t be optioned would present challenges on those inevitable days that a fresh arm is needed from the minors.
