2022 roster

I see that.

Oh well. Once Verlander resigned, it wasn’t a realistic deal or need anymore.

I still like him though.

I think the rotation is fine ( maybe even need to trade one of the backend guys)

Now let’s get Graveman back.

Yes please

Does anyone have a guess what the team can expect from a full year of Jeremy Pena at shortstop?

Adam Everett’s first full year:
.256 51r 8hr 51rbi 8sb .700ops in 128g

Julio Lugo:
.283 78r 10hr 40rbi 22sb .777ops 116g

Andujar Cedeno:
.283 69r 11hr 55rbi 9sb .758ops 149g

Roger Metzger:
.235 64r 0hr 26rbi 15sb .593ops 150g

Average of the 4?
.264 66r 7hr 44rbi 14sb .707ops. 136g

The average of the 4 is well above the current league average so if we could lock that in that’d be great.

Any reason you did not add CC into the average?

Carlos Correa:
.279 52r 22hr 68rbi 14sb .857ops 99g

I made money on this. A coworker baseball fan was certain that Everett wouldn’t hit above .250 and I thought he would. Well, actually, I was chippy because the guy was a Dodger fan and was talking down the Astros and made a rash bet that paid off in more than money.

I would be happy with offensive numbers like Lugo and Cedeno and defense like Metzger and Everett. Or both of Correa.

Everett (bat & glove) but with more power.

If you can get a full season above a .700-ish OPS with fifteen or so dingers out of Peña, that’s a win. Maybe my expectations are too low, but after he missed 2020 and much of 2021, I don’t think we should expect him to take over at SS without some real growing pains.

I just thought expecting Carlos’ ROY numbers would be unrealistic.

The other 4 seem reasonable to me.

If he does get the starting gig and produces at that level I would not be unhappy

Then, it’s reasonable to expect/hope Alex picks up the slack:

.285avg 92r 31hr 103rbi season from Bregman + the average of those 4 seasons is the same as 2021 Alex and Carlos.

That trade was realistic? I had Todd the Bod flashbacks.

You are right. All I can do is own it.

I just checked out baseballtradevalues. I plan on checking before I post a fool scenario in the future.

I clearly overvalue Astro prospects and undervalue good controllable established major league players.

Clearly have a lot to learn about player values

Who is Todd the bod?

Make @toddthebod a MLB GM and you get Jerry Dipoto, if that helps.

I THOUGHT that Alcantara had about a 18 value.

And
McCormick 12, Paredes 4, Manea 2, and Matijevic 1. for 19 total.

But in reality Alcantara is 78, McCormick is only 9 and the others less than 1.

Clearly whoever puts that together knows more than me, but I’m not sure how accurate it is.

The only 2 Astros that are equal to or higher than Alcantara are Tucker (114) and Valdez(83)

They have Alvarez as 66

And both Altuve and McCullers as negative.

Todd is a legend here for his 6 to 8 team trades. He was well liked and was a good poster, but his trade ideas were wild.

My favorite parts were, “Why TeamX does it.”

Well I was glad to bring back some fond memories.

Shit, they’re giving Elon Musk an expansion team?

Glad people remember me fondly.

I always thought the “why TeamX does it” was important. Because if you weren’t thinking about the other team’s perspective, then you would just come up with crazy shit. Jim, I don’t think I ever came up with 6 to 8 team trades. I probably maxed out at a 4 team trade.

As for this offseason, I don’t think that there is any way that the Astros are signing Correa, so …

Sign Marte for CF, sign a “stop-gap” shortstop like Jonathan Villar (until Pena is ready), and use guys like Meyers, McCormick, and Siri as trade-fodder for other needs. The center-field market sucks so maybe the Astros young centerfielders have some trade value.

My original fallback plan was to move Bregman back to shortstop and to sign Kris Bryant to play third. But I read somewhere that the Astros aren’t thinking about Bregs at SS, so that ended that plan.
