2022 Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Lo-A)

Outstanding outings from a pair of '22 draftees: 8th rounder Tyler Guilfoil (3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K) and 5th rounder Nolan DeVos (4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K). Guilfoil has 24 Ks vs 5 BBs in his 14.1 innings as a pro with just 5 hits allowed.

Not so outstanding was Jayson Schroeder: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 0 K, 1 WP. The former 2nd round pick (2018) has never been able to find the plate since being drafted but has taken his wildness to new levels this season. He’s walked an incredible 61 batters in just 26.2 IP. Add to that 7 plunks and 22 wild pitches.

Combined no-no with this year’s 7th rounder AJ Blubaugh doing most of the heavy lifting!!!

It can only get better…

This year’s 18th and 19th rounders Garrett McGowan (Pittsburg St) and John Garcia (Grambling) are a combined 9-117 to start their careers with only a pair of XBHs between them and a 32% K rate.

Peckers finished their season at 55-75 (31-34 first half, 24-41 second half) but went out on a high note with a slick performance from a trio of pitchers…

20 year old Dominican righty Carlos Calderon finished the year on a nice little stretch by not allowing a run over his last 16.2 innings with just 5 hits allowed and 19 Ks vs 7 BBs.

This year’s 5th rounder Nolan DeVos has whiffed 22 in his first 14.2 pro innings with 18 combined hits/walks allowed.

This year’s 8th rounder Tyler Guilfoil with the real eye-popping numbers: 31 Ks in just 17.1 IP with just 1 run allowed and an 0.69 WHIP.

Oddity in today’s game: due to a short bench pitcher Walker Brockhouse was the DH. He whiffed in all 3 plate appearances. Don’t see any evidence of him being a 2-way player in college so his last experience holding a bat in an actual game would have been in high school over 5 years ago.
