In light of this factoid combined with the organization pushing the eject button on Austin Pruitt after waiting so long for him to finally come back and pitch a whopping two innings as an Astro, I’m now skeptical of Baez pitching at all this season. Maybe they look to include him in a trade as well since he’s under contract for 2022?
I think he’s best used chewing sunflower seeds in the dugout.
I understand it will probably be Bielak going down, but this is precisely why Raley has to go. Baker doesn’t understand he should only be used in the middle innings and certainly not in high-leverage, late-inning situations. Blake Taylor needs to always be the first left-handed pitcher out of the bullpen if he’s available, and there are other right-handed pitchers in this bullpen that can get lefties out. Plus, with the three-batter minimum, teams are going to go to their benches, if need be, to have right-handed bats face Raley.
I other news, Grienke will get to hit in SF
YAY!
Jake Kaplan:
The Astros lost left-hander Ryan Hartman to the Orioles on Friday via a waiver claim. Hartman was DFA’d by the Astros on Sunday when they needed a 40-man roster spot.
Of course it was the Orioles.
Sucks getting nothing for him.
Much appreciate the patient OWA Baseball education available, in this case, regarding DFA.
A novice, I once thot this was a death sentence for a player but you guys taught me it was/could be just a detour to their dream of reaching the majors - tho w/ another team.
While it’s natural to to hate seeing players move w/o Astros’ compensation, it’s good to see this 27-yr-old rookie get his chance to achieve his dream somewhere else.
Btw, Hartman got his debut and his 1st K, while giving up his 1st (solo) HR - his only run in 2.1 innings.
Much obliged, OWA!
So, we have to get Meyers, Maton and Y Garcia on the active roster. Since the Maton move was late it may wait until tomorrow. Who knows when Meyers got the call. He could already be in SF. I’m assuming he’s an equal swap for Straw. So to get the two pitchers activated I’m guessing Bielak for sure. Raley is out of options, but he has to go in my opinion. I’m not sending anyone else down.
Meyers is going to join tomorrow as will I imagine Maton. I bet Garcia is added to the active roster today in place of Straw and then Bielak with be optioned tonight and hopefully Raley will be DFA’d but they might option one of the guys who still have options left for now
Edit - looking at the active roster Raley has to be DFA’d tonight after the game unless they want to option Abreu, which I can’t see them doing that
I HOPE HOPE HOPE its Raley
But I just don’t see this team getting rid of one of the 2 LHRP.
IMHO The only way Raley was going is if another LHRP was acquired
If this was still Luhnow/Hunch they would get rid of all LHRP and only consider best pitchers period.
I HOPE HOPE HOPE I’m wrong.
It’s gonna be Raley, everyone else is either newly acquired, out of options also, or Abreu. If they keep Raley over Abreu…
Some of the new RHers can probably get LHers out better than Raley. I expect that.
That’s a disaster waiting to happen.
While I agree, this is probably most dictated because of the NL park. If you put Chaz in center, Alvarez or Brantley have to sit. I’d probably take my chances with Tucker in center as well.
Yimi Garcia is active tonight says Chandler Rome. That’s 26.
There is a decent possibility they DFA Montero over Raley.
That, and Framber is pitching tonight. If you were going to give it a shot, it makes sense with him on the mound. Plus, you want your best left handed bats in the lineup against Kevin Gausman.
Stupid question from someone who should understand this org better than I do, but: who is behind Dusty’s hire and continued employment, Click or Crane?
It seems like it must be Crane, but I wonder if Crane has also instructed Click to be hands off, or that’s just Click’s MO to not interfere with the Manager.
Why DFA a guy you traded for? Especially when he had already been DFA’d by the Mariners? I mean, you could be right, but someone would have to explain that to me.
I’d rather have a hemorrhoid lanced than watch Raley warm up again.
