2021 roster

and Harris being unhittable most of the year.

Yeah I forgot about Harris. This bullpen doesn’t match up to 19 unless they add Kimbrel. Man that 19 team was so fucking good. Gotta be on the shortlist of best teams ever to not win the title.

I will look at 2019 Series again.

My memory is Harris being used to death because nobody else was available/effective.

I remember Pressly and Peacock hurt

You remember that very wrong. He was the go to guy because he was unhittable.

I remember he was unhittable.

I remember Pressly hurting his knee vs Yankees.

I think Peacock was just returning from injury going into playoffs.

I don’t recall much about Osuna but he didn’t pitch much in the Seties if I recall.

Darn this memory. It went as soon as I became a grandpa

How the bullpen ultimately shakes out?

Pressly
Graveman
Baez
Stanek
Javier
Y. Garcia
Taylor
Raley
L. Garcia*

Odd men out:
Abreu
Montero
Bielak
James
Scrubb
Paredes

*with Urquidy coming back he moves to the pen to limit his innings

4 starters and about 4 relievers that you trust is really the best you can hope for when it comes to October. Once you get past the 4th best guy on just about any team it starts to get sketchy. Unless you’re the 2020 Rays or early 2010s Giants

You take Raley out of there. Take him out right now. Otherwise Dusty will use him in every close game

Edit - I’d have Abreu, Scrubb and possibly Montero ahead of him right now but if forced to pick one give me Abreu

I would agree Abreu needs to be ahead of Raley.

Keep Abreu

Exactly. I was at all four in Houston. Still cannot believe it.

One of the issues is that Dodgers, Padres, and Giants each have several left handed hitters among their top 8 or 9 best position players.

That will give the team a reason/excuse to include Raley if they were included in a matchup.

I do not give one damn about that.

Don’t worry about the Dodgers, Giants or Padres. You have to get past 2 good AL teams and they have to get through 2 or 3 good NL teams for that match up to even happen. Don’t make roster decisions in July with a team from another league in mind. Have to get there to worry about it.

With the three-batter minimum, there is no way any team sends three left-handed hitters in a row to face Brooks Raley. Especially not analytically-driven ones like the Rays, Dodgers, Giants, etc.

Pointless fact department:

The Astros have now accumulated 8 pitchers who have saves this year–Pressly, Graveman, Montero, Y. Garcia, Raley, Stanek, Javier, Abreu.

Exactly. And I’d rather have multiple rightys in this bullpen pitch to 9 straight leftys than I would send Raley out there in a close game in October

The Astros don’t give a shit about lefty/lefty matchups anyway unless the stats are there. To wit: Will Harris was their “lefty specialist” for years.

Baker may feel differently, but I imagine he’ll be seeing eye to eye with the front office by the end of the regular season.

I was at game 5 with my 7 year old - probably the best sporting event experience of my life outside of 2017 game 5.
