I guess personality. I am not a stat-maven so I do not know how his numbers were. I think he is an arrogant prick on the field.

Because the Astros paid luxury tax for 2020, there are steeper penalties for signing FA w/QO. If they sign one FA with a QO attached, they would lose the 2nd and 5th highest selections in the 2021 draft–so, the fourth round pick and either the 6th or 7th Round pick depending on whether Springer signs with another team (if he does so before next year’s draft, the Astros would get an extra pick after the 4th Round). They would also lose $1M from their international bonus pool for 2021.

If the Astros signed two FA w/QO (highly unlikely, I imagine), they would also lose their 3rd and 6th highest selections in the 2021 draft.

In a normal season, he’d probably give you a league average batting average (~.250), league average on-base skills (~.320 OBP), and Top-30 power levels (in 2019, he hit 36 homers and ranked 26th in SLG, right behind Yuli).

He’s not top quartile in terms of punchable faces, but he’s probably above average in that category too.

Fuck him. Absolutely not interested in him.

Anyone who has been a Dodger as long as he has never even makes it onto my list.

I wouldn’t kick Kershaw out of bed for farting

The QO would have been more than Brantley signed for two years ago. I think there is a chance to sign him but it would have been better to lock him up on a 2-3 year deal during the season instead of exposing him to FA.

Sparks: bring back Marisnick

Based on the options and potential terms, I wouldn’t mind Marisnick.

The offense is still very formidable with a weak hitting gold glove calibur defender hitting 9th.

And it would not tie up a long term spot that may block potential lower lever prospects like Barber or Brewer if one/more of them develop.

What is different between Miles Straw and Jake Marisnick? One is that Straw is playing for close the the major league minimum. You don’t need two guys with that skill set on the roster. One is enough.

Agreed, Duman. Jake has more pop, and folks here think he is a light years better fielder, but I think Straw will be a good 4th OFer. I never would consider Jake a starter.

He doesn’t bring enough value to bring back the cheating baggage that will come with him as well.

Jackie Bradley Jr. is likely a reasonable FA option for CF

Works for me.

ESPN had time to kill and thought Ozuna would be a FA acquisition. Alvarez would be back, so him, Ozuna, and Tucker would be quite a show

Hell no on Ozuna bc of Alvarez.

Forcing Tucker to CF would make Berkman and Biggio look Mays-esque

If the OF ends up being Alvarez-Ozuna-Tucker then Crane might need to move the CF fence in again.

Astros among 3 interested parties in JBJ…

The Red Sox are far from the only suitors for Bradley Jr., with the Astros showing strong interest and one American League Central team putting the 30-year-old at the top of its free agent wish-list.

Rosenthal said in The Athletic today that the Astros are trying to work out a deal with Brantley who is interested in returning.
