I can’t remember, but hasn’t Altuve batted lead-off fairly frequently in the past?
He has hit leadoff a fair amount in his career, but not recently. Only a handful of games per season since 2016, typically just to give Springer a day off here or there. His career numbers overall are pretty good in the leadoff spot.
While I am perfectly content to see what Straw can do with every day at bats in center field, I can’t help but notice that Jackie Bradley is still out there. His market has obviously been over estimated by Boras and himself. Money is drying up and most teams have made their final roster decisions. I wonder what the price point would have to be AAV wise for the Astros to jump back in? While comfortable with Straw, I wouldn’t mind a lefty/righty platoon with he and Bradley in center. And it would provide you some experienced cover if there is an injury to a corner outfielder or if the corner guys just need a day or two of rest.
Fuck that. We need another SP. I’m terrified that rolling from a short season to a full season is going to send pitchers to the DL on a regular basis. Hope I’m wrong.
Oh I’m right there with you in that regard. I’ve been hoping we would sign a back end starter all winter to help eat innings. Problem is all the cheap ones are now gone. With Tehran signing today and Rich Hill off the boards, I can’t think of another guy we could sign to a small major league or minor league deal. I feel great about Javier and/or Garcia, but I doubt they are ready for a full MLB season. Whitley better mature and be ready to start about 10 games this year.
Well, clearly Click is not worried. Hope he knows what he’s doing.
Why would a message board poster say something like this about Click?
The “skinny” on Scrubb:
- Lavish, unprompted praise from Strom for what he’s shown early on in camp
- The PC says “we got a steal from Dodgers” (he came from LA for Tyler White)
- Quieted down his delivery and is adding a slider as a third pitch
- Has lost weight from last season’s listed 270 lbs
Garrett, bro, I share your pain…
I’d say my 2 main issues on the gf/df diet were the lack of dessert options and that vegan “cheese” completely sucks.
I have not gone dairy free yet in addition to gluten free but with my options narrowing I may be forced to. I think I’ll miss cheese more than the desserts.
One man’s opinion (13 pitchers/13 position players)…
I like all this. He wants to stay.
I can’t imagine why the Astros would ask him to move over. Would Bregman be better at SS?
I don’t think so.
That whole loyalty being two ways thing:
I read this as completely this opposite. He’s trying to expand the number of teams that might potentially be interested in him.
It’s just that it’s so early: an entire season to play before he can even negotiate with anyone but Houston that makes me think the message is primarily for Click & Co.
Story just dropped in MLB trade rumors quoting Correa as sayin if the Astros are going to extend him, he wants it done now. He says he doesn’t want to think about this during the season. Says he feels great physically.
Extension Notes: Lindor, Correa, Bieber, Bichette
