2021 roster

Following up a bit on what Alkie said, Kaplan did an interview with Smith which was published in The Athletic last month. Besides the uncertainties of the pandemic, his mother was dying of Huntington’s. She has since passed. Smith told Kaplan he will indeed be playing in 2021.

Humberto Castellanos DFA’d to make room for Castro.

Is the delay on Brantley because of a physical?

We need to do something about CF unless the decision is Straw. He gets a bad rap here, but I saw him a lot in RR, and I think he can play. That does not mean I think he is better than the major leaguers still out there.

I suspect so. Brantley I think lives in Florida while Castro lives in Houston so presumably that made the turnaround on the latter’s physical quicker.

I’m guessing Straw is a fallback option and as those go you could do much, much worse.

If he is a starter, I would hit him leadoff and would tell him to forget about BA and to get on base.

“Myles, we want you to move closer to the plate in your stance. Much, much closer.”

Please tell me this is not the kid with the funky windup — the one where it looks like he’s trying to dance with an imaginary partner?

The guy that appeared briefly late in the season, and was on long duty in the playoffs? If so, I don’t think it’s him.

He was that rookie that pitched last year.

I looked up season roster and think the guy I was worried about losing was Luis Garcia? Big dude who seemed to have an extra step in the windup before coming home. He looked promising so hoping Garcia is who I’m think about versus Humberto.

Castellanos is the guy who got pitching lessons from Ramon Laureano.

Castellanos is kinda lanky and wore gold chain(s). He is the one who hit Laureno

Garcia is the guy with tree trunks for thighs

Yes. He will be fine in CF or RF and adequate at 2B or SS. And if he can manage to get to 1B regularly, he could be an offensive threat. At #9 in the order, it would not be terrible.

Last year Fangraphs graded Myles Straw’s defense as a 60 and arm at 55

With major league average being 50.

For the record 70 speed, 20 power, and 50 ( with 55 future) hit.

Straw can play and I bet he can be an above average everyday centerfielder.

He was just born 40 years too late.

Oh, THAT one.

Step 1 of clearing the 40 man: adios Cionel

Too bad he never panned out. I had high hopes for him after he signed.

What do you think may be his offensive upside? Better than what we’ve seen? Better than Marisnick for example?

Heard Kaplan talking about Garcia on a podcast and he is highly regarded by the organization.
Garcia…not Kaplan.
