I hope we don’t end up with Baez remorse
Argh
Updated. Note that:
- Even though two relievers have been signed (Baez and Stanek), from my reading of Click’s comments of a few minutes ago I’m going to assume there’s still a possibility for another add to the bullpen and the table below reflects it.
- With the 40-man full and as many as 4 free agent signings still to come, I’ve added Taylor Jones as a “bubble guy” (that’s despite the fact there is already a dearth of position players on it)
The difference between the Astros and Correa certainly an outlier among the other arb cases this year…
Someone apparently decided to leak this out…
Looks like Pedro Leon is wearing #4. Not that we didn’t know that George was signing elsewhere, I suppose that makes it “official.” Will look weird seeing someone else in #4 this year.
For comparison, Lindor settled for $22.3 million.
Correa will get his $12.5 million. Can’t imagine this bodes well for negotiating a long term contract.
I’m surprised how many still think we can re-sign Carlos.
He’s gone. Bregman and Altuve are the core of the team going forward.
Maybe it’s just denial. Letting Springer go to keep Correa sucks but is tolerable. Letting them both go stings.
If we wanted Carlos long term we most likely would have already locked him up. We make him the QO and get the draft pick compensation just like we are doing with Springer. I love CC and the leadership intangibles he brings, but it will be hard to commit long term big money to him given his injury history and regular season inconsistency.
We have a good looking potential replacement in Pena who hopefully keeps progressing, gets his feet wet this year, and is ready in 2022. And if Tucker continues to to improve and solidifies his play perhaps the money is better spent extending him rather than Correa.
Its one thing to say (or be hopeful) that Leon may fill some gaps left by Springer.
But CC’s defense and production aren’t likely to be filled by one roster spot.
I know the reality is he’s unlikely to stay here, but it’s still tough to stomach.
Not to mention his leadership.
That’s the part that’s so difficult to replace. Tucker might replace Springer’s stats but I highly doubt he will become the leader Springer was. He may, but it will take a while. Plus this group has played so much playoff baseball together and won a lot of games. They work as a team. Will suck to lose two of the core 4.
I do not believe Springer was a leader. I do believe Correa is.
Very evident in last post-season. (leadership)
Springer is Dean Martin, Correa is Frank Sinatra… I guess that would make Altuve, Sammy Davis Jr.
Frank called the shots for all those guys.
I do not believe Springer was a leader. I do believe Correa is.
Absolutely. So I wonder why they haven’t extended him? Obviously they still could, but at this point if I’m Correa I’m gonna have the best season I can and test the market. If they have decided they can’t afford a third, long term big bucks contract at this time then ok, but I sure hate letting him walk for just the QO draft pick. And it is too late to trade him for multiple quality pieces.
