He also is in discussions to keep JV.

Only one you say?

Maybe I’m overreacting but this just seems like shockingly weak tea. I wonder if Crane thinks that the Luhnow-system will work irrespective of the quality of the GM.

Overreacting, imo. We have no control over this so my plan is to let it play out before I start to criticize.

Yes please

My assumption was that this would occur directly between JV and Crane, and the GM would be out of the loop.

I think that is what happened with the last contract as well.

So, McTaggert quotes Crane as saying we might add a bat or two? Interesting. With the shift limitations coming into play next year, the value of left handed hitters might improve with the possibility of more base hits available for them now. Nimmo bats left and Josh Bell is a switch hitter. Signs them both for center and first. Ink JV and Montero and start prepping for spring training.

That simple huh? I know…my sarc-o-meter isn’t turned up to the max but it did pick up at least a hint of it. I think Montero is gone. He will get closer money to do just that or he will get more years (see Graveman) than the club is willing to give. Hope I’m wrong.

Excellent. I want Verlander to finish his career in Houston.

If Yordan is the full time LF, then at a minimum, DH is currently a gaping black hole.

What about that Diaz kid?

With his 2nd Cy and 2nd ring and now 6 years with the Astros, if he says with the team it’d be increasingly likely that he goes into the Hall as an Astro. I hope.

I like Montero a lot and have since we acquired him in 2021. If he leaves, which I hope he does not, Paredes is waiting in the wings.

I like Montero but a combination of Abreu, Stanek, Neris, Paredes and Pressly to close out games is still nasty.

Martinez did pretty well too…and Maton should be back as well.

I would really like to see Diaz back. Is there a better utility player in baseball? And he is a big plus in the clubhouse. If they are going to pay Verlander a king’s ransom, surely there are a few million dollars left over to bring back Diaz.

I like Hensley better than A Diaz, but I think Y Diaz may be the solution to the DH hole while providing backup at 1B and third-catcher flexibility.
