In a discussion on Twitter about Schwarber’s inexplicable bunt attempt, it was pointed out that - with two strikes in the count - Bregman had shifted further over towards 2B, leaving the whole left side of the infield unguarded. They also mentioned that Schwarber has tried this before.

This may be true, but it still doesn’t mean that Schwarber wasn’t raising the white flag against Abreu. He’s a legit power threat - having gone deep in his prior a.b. - yet he abdicated the responsibility by trying to bunt his way on and expecting Hoskins (3-25 in the Series, hitless in the last 3 games) to somehow keep the line moving.

The hitting coaches really got thrown under the bus. Wonder if we see a change there this offseason.

I don’t see that as a throwing the hitting coaches under the bus–they were just getting out of Brantley’s way so that he could deliver his message to the players fully and frankly.

In fact, based on this SI article, I’d say that the hitting coaches should be getting attaboys. The morning of game 6, they were scouring Yordan video from his epic June, realized his hand position had dropped, and got Yordan’s buy-in on tweaking his swing on the same day. With memorable results.

Rereading it, you are correct. I originally read it as though Brantley was mad at the coaches, that wasn’t the case he was just mad.
