Phillies planning on bullpen games for Game 3 and Game 4. Interesting strategy.
Details here:
“An extra day, yeah,” Thomson said, asked about giving Suárez extra rest. “We figure for Game 4 he can at least give us … We can extend him out a little bit more than we could if he was pitching Game 3.”
Syndergaard has a 1.69 ERA in three appearances this postseason, including a start in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Braves on Oct. 15. Syndergaard pitched only three innings in that start because he is not stretched out.
He has thrown only 1 1/3 innings since then, so Game 3 figures to be another bullpen game for the Phillies.
Game 4 could be another bullpen game, too. Suárez has a 1.86 ERA in four postseason appearances, including two starts. He pitched 3 1/3 innings in Game 1 of the NLDS on Oct. 11, and five innings in Game 3 of the NL Championship Series on Oct. 21. It is unclear how long Suárez could go on Tuesday.
Weather update for Game 3 (+ 4&5 preview): The storm that will affect the region continues to look weak and disorganized with the steadiest and heaviest rains shunted off to the southeast of Philly. Monday looks to be largely ok with light precip chances increasing as the day progresses. Any rain that might lead to a rainout looks to arrive midnight or later so, as long as Game 3 is not some 18 inning affair, it looks to be completed. The core of moderate rain showers is from midnight through maybe noon on Tuesday but showers may linger so there is a nonzero chance that Game 4 might be delayed or paused as a shower moves through. Likewise, there may be a shower sometime in Game 5 too but no long duration rain event.
It’ll be quite warm for Philly in early November. Highs in the 60’s and lows in the 50’s.
I’ll give another update on Monday before the game.
All the Deets
Halloween doesn`t look too bad for any daytime festivities. Expecting continuing cloudy skies, though mid-level dry air will be slow to erode with only weak moisture advection. Both the GFS and ECMWF actually have PWATs less than 1 inch through midday Monday. Moisture increases towards sunset, with showers beginning to move in by late Monday as another shortwave moves through. Still looks rather light and stuck close to the previous forecast, with slight chc/low end Chc PoPs up through 00z Tuesday. Monday looks to be on the mild side, with 60s anticipated across the area, with upper 50s in the Poconos. Monday night looks to be the wettest period for the short term. Does look like the more widespread shower activity will come after midnight, though still looking at minimal accumulations of around 0.1-0.25 inches over the area. Again stayed close to the previous forecast with highest PoPs over Delmarva/South Jersey. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 50s. Tuesday looks to be on the more unsettled side as the main trough moves through with a weak area of low pressure developing off the Mid-Atlantic coast. Looking at another cloudy day with scattered light showers around the area. Capped PoPs at slight chc as shower activity will be less widespread compared to Monday night. Temperatures will still be on the mild side, with 60s again for most of the region. Some spots in Delmarva may touch 70 as well. This puts temperatures on the order of 5-10 degrees above average for November 1st. Trough looks to pass late in the day Tuesday, with quieter weather taking over after. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/… Mid-level ridging and high pressure appear to remain across the East Coast from the middle to end of the coming week. Temperatures appear to run a few degrees above normal with highs in the mid 60s to near 70 degrees and lows in the mid 40s to low 50s. Any lingering showers from Tuesday night should clear out early in the evening, then dry conditions and mostly clear to partly cloudy skies are forecast through the end of the week. Some guidance suggests there could be a few isolated showers on Wednesday, however most of the area will remain dry.
Makes sense from their perspective. They have Nola and Wheeler, then who?
Pray for rain.
Fucking oof.
Brutal.
Amazing work by the “others”
I see the media and fans in Philly are losing their shit about Maldonado using Pujol’s illegal bat in Game 1. Some have called for the Astros to forfeit the Series and Maldonado banned for life.
D-liscious
The Astros must forfeit Game 1.
Also pretty good work by the hitters who relentlessly attacked Philadelphia’s ace starters - only 2 out of 10 innings were clean.
Justin Verlander is 100 percent for this.
Cabrera also had a perfect game in the GameZone thread!
Yeah I just thought about that! Scooped again!
Here’s another one for you: Madison Bumgarner could start G6 of the World Series, give up 23 straight solo home runs, and leave the game without recording a single out, and he’d still have a lower career WS ERA than Verlander.
