What are you eating?

We’re on the second bottle of the Turley White Coat. It’s become our go-to turkey wine.

My wife and I can’t eat much, plus I had rotator cuff surgery in late August, so I’m not fucking with a heavy turkey if I can help it. So after physical therapy yesterday I went to the most expensive butcher shop in town (not saying much, but you know). I got two of their nice filets, plus some of their big-ass overstuffed twice-baked potatoes. Which, honestly, is the reason I came here. They’re so good that my wife is fine with me paying extra for steaks if I get some of their potatoes too. So I got four of those.

Then I went to Lowe’s and got a new charcoal chimney because I can literally see through my old one. After that, there’s no need to go to a liquor store because I can’t drink alcohol and my wife doesn’t want to. But we can vape medical cannabis flower, so I went out to the dispensary and got a pile of my current favorite, Blackwater from Natural State Medicinals. It doesn’t have much CBD, but it has 32% THC, so it’s a heavy lifter and will be good for my shoulder pain.

This afternoon I started the Weber with the new chimney, came back in and vaped some Blackwater, timing it so the munchies would kick in about the time the food is done. Threw the steaks on, wife put the potatoes in the oven, everything finished at the same time. After a huge potato we’ve each only eaten half a steak, so we each still have another potato and half a steak for tomorrow. Yes I planned it that way. Perfect.

And now more Blackwater.

I love twice-baked potatoes, to the extent that I once asked for them when my mother asked what I wanted for birthday dinner.

My cousin smoked a turkey, he’s got that nailed down on his pit. I talked Mom into making a, for the first time in 6 years or so, her pumpkin cheesecake, which is better than any pumpkim pie you’ve ever even looked at. Did some stuffing in muffin tins, and they were different and delicious. Chef Brother made some of the best brussels sprouts I’ve ever had.

eta: and my aunt makes the best simplest cranberry dressing: blanched berries, jalapeno, orange zest, sugar, salt chopped up in a cuisinart

Dinner at The Annie was Capital A+. I think that was the best prime rib I’ve ever had. Even my very fussy now 18 year old (call back to the feeling old posts) managed to put together her most enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner ever.

Never been there, menu looks great, but I love that they have a “lunch” and “business lunch” dichotomy

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I looked up the last recipe I used. It’s a sweet sausage, for about 4 pounds of pork, plus some extra fat. 3 tbs. salt, 2 tbs. sugar, 2 tsps. minced garlic, 2 tbs. toasted fennel seeds, 2 tsps. pepper, 2 tbs sweet paprika, 3/4 c. ice water, 1/4 c. red wine vinegar. Probably some random oregano out of the garden and a pinch or so of cayenne.

Thanks! I will try this next time

I should have put an asterisk behind it, because that’s the tested amount from an Arkansas lab that’s known to put it’s thumb on the scale.

But yeah, a little goes a long way. I got real hungry and then real lazy.

Oh man these are so good. They put huge scoops of potatoes into a pathetically inadequate shell of skin. It’s totally worth it to buy these and not screw around with making them myself.

The first really good high test pot I smoked back in the 90’s was called Arkansas Razorback, thanks for reminding me of that 1st glorious bong hit.

This is a great use (not that there are any bad ones) for italian sausage that mom likes to make, the restaurant considers it a side dish but you can absolutely make a meal out of it:

The names of the strains are so ridiculous now. The worst I’ve seen is Interspecies Erotica. No I didn’t try it. At the beginning of the program I saw some called Woo Pig Sooie, but I imagine the university got that shut down fast.
