Trade Deadline 2023

My math based on Feisand’s report, caveat that I am terrible at math:

2023 - Mets pay 9.1 million of his remaining salary, Astros pay 6.15ish
2024 - Mets pay 25.9 million, Astros pay 17.43
2025 - (assuming his option vests) Mets pay 17.5 million, Astros pay 17.5 million

I think that’s how this would be allocated for luxury tax purposes, prorating the 35M over the remaining games in '23 plus '24.

It must be the NY rubbing off on you since you are there. Otherwise, it’s all unicorns and butterflies from that JimR fella.

Man, it would suck to be a Met fan.

I know. I have never, ever irritated anyone here. I am a go along to get along guy all the way.

I’m 99.9% sure that’s how it works. The Mets aren’t sending cash, they’re covering salary. How it’s allocated is the difference.

That’s an excellent way to look at it.

I like that. I was thinking it was a “semester abroad.”

Love that so much.

Alright, hour and a half til the deadline, Verlander is the trademark Crane splash, but I assume Brown still wants a reliever and a lefty bat. There was some buzz that Arizona might put Chafin on the block despite adding to their bullpen yesterday, I think that might be a good fit. No idea what lefty bats are left.

ETA: fuck me, Milwaukee just picked up Chafin.

You sealing the Verlander deal last night buys you a lot of brownie points.

Somebody else put it “Verlander went on vacation in New York and then Houston called him back to work”

Dylan Carlson is out there but I doubt the Astros would be in on him

Excellent!

I knew JimR was trying to get this deal done when he mentioned he was in NY yesterday.

Great work so far, Jim S. What else do you have for us?

Yeah, Kate and I got the deal done.
ETA: it will be so great to see him in an Astros uniform again.

I’m sure the offer for an OWA parents night out babysitting service put it over the top.

Let me know when it’s my turn.

Lorenzen to Philly?

So JV will be a lower payroll hit than LMJ next year.
