Trade Deadline 2023

With Bregman giving him the pouty face

Have we traded for Graveman??? Talking about it now on MLB radio.

EDIT: looks like it’s done

It’s not the bullpen arm I wanted but I’ll take the help. Every time I watched Graveman this year it wasn’t a good outing.

Passan and Rosenthal both say it’s done.

Slaughter the fattened calf, the prodigal reliever returns.

Whoa. For Korey Lee.

I think Graveman’s contract runs through next year, correct?

What did it cost us???

What the literal fuck!!! Sellers market I guess and I think Graveman has another year or control.

Maybe will get some single a guy back like we did with Diaz in the straw deal.

The emergence of Diaz does make Lee expendable/tradeable, but I would have thought you could have gotten more than a 7th/8th inning bullpen arm for him. Guess I was wrong.

I took a 60% pay cut to come work in the federal government. And, it was the best professional decision of my career.

Graveman! Glad to have him back. And not a rental either—he’s under contract through 2024.

Verlander was far from a sure thing coming off of Tommy John surgery approaching 40 years old. Don’t forget, they offered Verlander 2 years coming off of Tommy John surgery knowing nothing was a sure thing with him regarding his elbow. Verlander could have went out there, struggled to stay healthy and injured his elbow again in ‘22 and still could have got paid $25mm this year. Plus, Verlander wasn’t exactly lighting it up before he came to Houston in 2017. He hadn’t had an era below 3 since 2012. Clearly Verlander deserves some credit for turning things around and winning 2 CY Young awards but a lot of credit should go to Strom and the Astros organization for helping him get back on track. If that’s not loyalty, I’m not sure what is.

Bottom line, Verlander is no Biggio or Bagwell. Both of those guys could have left for more money and did not. I guess they were stupid.

I LOVE this move!

Pen needed a shot in the arm!

Agreed.

Bullpen needed help, Graveman is having a good year on a terrible team.

He has another year on his deal and Neris, Maton, and Stanek are all pending FA.

outstanding !!

I think Neris will be back actually.

Yes, his overall numbers do look good. I’m glad to have him back as well. I really wanted Suter from the Rockies but I will take Kendall in a heartbeat. I have watched him a few times this year and it seemed like it was a bad outing every time I caught him, but his numbers do look good. Slightly better than his career numbers in some areas.

It certainly doesn’t bother me losing Korey Lee. He may turn out to be a HOFer, but I just don’t see it.
