Trade Deadline 2022

The roller coaster of emotions expressed by everyone here on Aug. 31, 2017 was crazy to read.

Passan now confirms that deal Soto will be a Padre regardless of Hosmer

Edit I only add this, even though it had been said by Rosenthal and others, because Passan is the national reporter I trust to be right the most

I’m SO glad I was asleep for all that.

So Bell might not be going anywhere yet?

Remains to be seen if he will still be in the deal. I haven’t seen anybody mention if this means anything for Bell

Edit my guess is he still will be but the Padres are now in a tough spot. They have to get somebody to take Hosmer

Me too

I woke up in the middle of the night, maybe 2 or 3 am and read twitter from around 10pm(time stamp) until the deal was done, so I had, in a little less time, the same experience everyone else did. Just a few hours after it actually happened. Weird experience for sure

If Brantley is a no go the rest of the season, would there be devalued value to acquire Hosman? The CF situation is a greater need

Hosmer is strictly a 1B. How would that address the Brantley problem?

He’s left handed, I guess. Only correlation I can think of. Hard no from me

Mancini in LF, Spell Gurriel, Rotate DH, trade for CF

I think Trey Mancini is more or less insurance for Brantley in the event Brantley can’t play.

No, no, no.

There has to be a few NL CF’ers who could be gotten for a reasonable price?

JJ Bleday (Marlins)
Ian Happ (Cubs)
Nick Senzel (Reds)
Traycee Thompson (Dodgers)
Obdubel Herrera (Phillies)
Brian Reynolds (Pirates)
Mike Yazstremski (Giants)

I think I’ve posted my “story” on here before, but I found out about it first thing in the morning, bleary-eyed, on the shitter, scrolling down and seeing this gem from Gammons that took me a minute to comprehend:

We look there, it’s the biggest missing piece

Irons in the fire, I am sure. Just trying to whittle down the final candidates.

Happ seems to be the most available, and there are a few AL players that may be possible - but unlikely.

Good luck J Click! Bring it home.

Bleday and Senzel aren’t going anywhere barring a very strange trade. They’re both former top-5 draft picks and relatively recent callups. Herrera sucks and is also a domestic abuser. I like Thompson as an option but it’s hard to see the Astros and Dodgers connecting on a trade right now. Happ and Yaz make a lot of sense, Reynolds too as a bigger splash.

Edit: forgot Senzel’s been up since ‘19 but still really hard to see Cindy moving him.

Not only is the ex-Astro still on the IL, he was having a shitty year at the plate prior to getting hurt.

The only thing in his favor is he did have a helluva year in '21 (4.9 WAR).

Fair enough - forgot about Herrera’s personal life - and it does look like a waning pool of options.
