Touche. The 3-1 pitch should have been crushed.
B11:
Hill on the hill
Diaz at 2B
PeƱa flies out F9
Bregman singles to RF, Diaz to 3B
Alvarez, representing the winning runā¦takes a 3-1 cookieā¦geezā¦grounds softly into 5-4 FC, Diaz scores, Alvarez to 1B
Meyers pinch running for Alvarez
Abreu pops out to SS
And the Astros go down 7-6. Fall to 2-3 on the season
Poop on this game.
But good to see Bregman with 3 knocks.
Brown was not good. The pen was not good. Neither are good.
That dominant bullpen last year had a lot to do with the starters eating so many innings, too.
True, but the bullpen isnāt overworked by the first week of April either. Theyāre just off to a bad start.
Yeah, the pitching has been vulnerable, but if Hensley had moved the runner over in the 10th, we win.
Fundamentals.
The manager can also call for a bunt any time he wants.
A bunt wasnāt needed, a ball hit to the right side was. Or a deep fly ball. Or literally anything other than a strikeout or a grounder to the left.
Most if not all of Hensleyās hits have come to right field, so although the outcome was incredibly annoying, the decision to have him hit away was defensible.
I do think that in most cases a bunt is indicated with the first batter if youāre in a Manfred Man situation at home.
There is however no evidence whatsoever that anyone under 32 can bunt.
Lots of evidence being asked to bunt is considered an insult.
I was not trying to insult. I do not remember exact situation, was watching game with family that could care less so was not zoned in. Thought you guys were referring to starting an extra inning with a man on 2nd and no outs and wondered why we didnāt just try to bunt the runner over to third.
Thatās exactly what weāre talking about.
A bunt isnāt needed, but itās one strategy. But if you trust the hitter at the plate to hit situationally, thereās no need for a bunt.
Agree.
Iād say he needs to hit in those situations.
My dad called me and asked āwhy the hell didnāt Dusty bunt? I get it if you got Bregman, Alvarez, or Tucker due up, someone who can hit, but when you got Dubon and Maldonado due up, you gotta win on a fly ballā. Heās old school.
Anyone else in the lineup is up with the exception of Alvarez and Tucker and possibly Abreu and Iām pissed that he doesnāt bunt.
You might get a flyball from Dubon, but putting your hopes on a Maldy hit if Dubon doesnāt come makes about as much sense as expecting Maton to come in and get an out without walking anyone while the bases are loaded.
Maldonado didnāt hit anyway, they pinch hit Diaz. But my dad would bunt four times a game. Heās not exactly from the dead ball era, but heās not far off.

Heās old school.
And heās right.
