They’re giving up quite a bit for a guy who hasn’t even been a back of the rotation starter
True. And I’m not predicting Sale will be an all-star. More than half the teams in the league probably don’t make this deal. But no one knows Grissom more than Atlanta and they think this was worth the risk. They are one of the few who could afford to make this deal. They need pitching. They didn’t need Grissom. It may or may not pay off, but as I said, if Sale improves at all, the Braves are better and won’t really miss Grissom either way.
From Sahadev Sharma’s article in the Athletic on Cubs’ front office moves:
“Kanzler is perhaps most well-known for helping Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña make the mechanical adjustments in the fall of 2022 that were key in helping the young player unlock his offensive potential in the playoffs. Peña slashed .345/.367/.638 that postseason en route to winning ALCS and World Series MVP honors. Kanzler had been offered the lead hitting coach job with at least one other team in the past but chose to stay with the Astros despite largely being considered the third hitting coach behind Alex Cintrón and Troy Snitker.”
Thank you for everything you did in an Astros’ uniform, Uncle Mike. It was a pleasure to watch you play, and young baseball players would be wise to study and emulate your approach at the plate.
I loved watching him at bat. It was refreshing to see a hitter with plate discipline, which is increasingly a lost art. Thanks, Mike, for contributing to the game and this team
Few days ago, Seattle traded Robbie Ray to SFG for Mitch Haniger + DeSclafani. Seattle is in win-now mode. SFG wins this deal for 2025, presuming Ray regains his health.
