I googled, but one said he was going to sign, but I don’t think done at the time… Would rather have him. But not a death sentence.
First “major” free agent signing of the void:
3 yrs//$39MM for Anderson with the Angels giving up their 2nd round pick and $500K out of their international signing pool because of the QO.
That’s a healthy deal for him. I’m surprised he got signed so quickly. Anderson seemed like the kind of guy whose market would really suffer from the QO.
Anderson had a great year, but it is an outlier right now. Maybe he found something like Mike Scott. The deal makes sense for both parties, IMO.
Rizzo re-signing with Yankees says Rosenthal.
LOL. After all that back and forth last night. Fuck Rosenthal for not waiting another day to publish.
Sherman with the details:
Maybe Abreu is next? Josh Bell is who I hope is next.
Sphinx is not a praying man, but he prayed all night for this.
Now that Rizzo is gone I expect the other big 2 1B to go quickly. That bodes well for Contreras signing since he has a QO too and losing 2 QO penalties might have been less than optimal.
Come on Bell and Contreras !!
I wonder if Crane needs to wait for JV to sign. There may not be room in the budget if he does. We don’t know at this point.
But since I’m just a fan I want : JV, Bell, Contreras, and Brantley.
A guy can dream can’t he?
Sorry, but I don’t want Contreras. He’s not what we want in our locker room. If you sign two players to play one of center, first or DH we don’t need another catcher IMHO. Lee can do the job behind Maldonado and if you change your mind mid-season, there are always backup catchers available.
Before the playoffs I would have been on board with a new 1st baseman. But now, after his performance in the playoffs, I hope we can sign Yuli for another year at least.
You know, you could do both, potentially, if the plan is for Alvarez to play left full time. Bell and Abreu could split time between first and DH. Leave Chaz or Jake in center for their defense.
Altuve 2B
Peña SS
Alvarez LF
Bregman 3B
Tucker RF
Abreu DH/1B
Bell 1B/DH
McCormick/Myers CF
Maldonado C
That lineup should put up some runs.
Yeah, I kind of feel the same way. Mid season I was convinced this was it for Yuli, but his playoff performance was key. I’d be good either way, but perhaps he could be the utility guy for one year?? His bat and health is definitely more reliable than Diaz.
Yuli will be nearly 39 by opening day and has played a total of 2 innings at 3b ( in 2021) and 0 innings anywhere besides 1B since 2019.
I don’t see him as a utility player.
Can he throw left-handed?
I am like you. If Dusty did not want Contreras in the clubhouse, neither do I. Sign or trade for hitters for 1B and DH, stand pat in CF or find a guy who can play defense and hit some, move Yuli to the Diaz role if he is not kept at 1B, Lee to backup catcher for now, sign JV and maybe Stanek (Paredes might take his spot), and I am good to go.
Yuli was a world-class infielder in Cuba. Do not tell me he cannot be a util player in MLB. You look at numbers way too much.
Yuli is a unique player. I have no doubt that he can play anywhere in the field just as good, if not better than Diaz.
