That sucked me in until War and Peace. Bravo.
I can’t imagine ever having the desire to re-read W&P
The BBC miniseries from a few years ago was quite good though.
I love ‘em.
There’s a big music festival this weekend (BottleRock). We live perhaps two blocks from the main stage and last night’s headliner was Metallica. Watching the game while James Hetfield dubs me unforgiven is surreal.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of time zones.
I could only get through one of them the first time.
Stranger Things eps 1-6:
Spoiler question
Summary
Are we going to talk about Hopper breaking his ankle to get the leg irons off, then proceeding to fight and run as though totally fine?
No.
Why is Kate Bush in the SciFi thread? I was worried I was in the dead pool thread for a second.
An incredibly minor baby spoiler from Stranger Things.
I always had time for Kate Bush…
But in this regard:
Summary
This is why bringing Hopper back was such a mistake. If you believe a major character can die, the danger to Max seems real.
If I liked Stranger Things first two seasons OK but hated the third will I like the fourth? Me
And Mrs banedoodle are isolating at home with COViD this week and in the market for something to watch.
That depends - why did you hate S3? I found it better than S2. If your issue was the amount of time the core characters spent apart, you’ll find that issue again in S4.
Well I just finished Ep 1 and the ending freaked me the fuck out.
They grow up so fast, don’t they.
Buckle up. There’s a lot more where that came from.
I got as far as Ep 3 last night.
Major Spoiler
The ending of Ep 3 was phenomenal. I really thought right up until the moment her body dropped that they were going to kill off Max. The cut to black to nail home that fear was executed perfectly.
The hook the demon had into her was her guilt over Billy’s death, and even the “rescue” song’s lyrics were predicting Max’ death:
And if I only could,
I’d make a deal with God,
And I’d get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.
I am not sure if I will finish the show today, being Memorial Day, as I have fallen into a habit of watching Band of Brothers and/or Saving Private Ryan on this day. But I’m looking forward to finishing “Volume 1”, while not looking forward to whatever mindfuck cliffhanger dickpunch they leave us on.
Spoiler-y discussion ahead.
Summary
I kind of enjoy that Stranger Things has that 80s movie/TV adventure show thing to it where the main characters always survive. Eventually they WILL kill someone off and it’s going to be absolutely gutting.
But I do get where you’re coming from.
My speculation:
Summary
The most likely major character death is Steve sacrificing himself to save Nancy
