I love true crime also. I just finished reading Brothers in Blood. Recommend it to her.

Disney+ is going to reboot Firefly, under Jon Favreau.

I’m conflicted.

Justified sequel in the works also

I started Peacemaker last night. Three episodes in. It’s hilarious.

This could be amazing. Or not.

I cannot find any news (current or old) about Favreau rebooting Firefly.

Same, only that Disney+ has made a little vague noise about it. Nothing about Favreau being attached to the project.

Some Trek news dropped yesterday:

  • Discovery: S4 resumes February 10, renewed for S5
  • Picard: S2 premieres March 3
  • Strange New Worlds: S1 premieres May 5, already renewed for S2
  • Lower Decks: S3 premieres in the summer, renewed for S4

We are truly living in the gold-pressed latinum age of Star Trek.

Make it so.

What is Strange New Worlds, please?

I had the same question. Google tells me…

Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One explore new worlds around the galaxy on the U.S.S. Enterprise.

That doesn’t exactly strike me as “must see viewing” but maybe I’ll be surprised.

On a related note, is Lower Decks worth checking out? The humor seems kind of lame in the clips I’ve seen but maybe they don’t do justice to the series as a whole.

Strange New Worlds is based on “The Cage” (original TOS pilot), spun off from Discovery S2 which heavily featured Pike/Spock and some of Number One. And it will feature more “planet of the week” style episodes instead of the serial plots of Disco and Picard.

I will say that S2 remains my favorite season of Discovery, due in no small part to Anson Mount’s portrayal of Pike. Here are some clips (contains some Discovery spoilers):

Lower Decks is by far my favorite of the new Trek shows. I think it’s funnier and smarter than The Orville (which I also like) with the added bonus of being able to directly reference - and poke fun at - Trek lore.

I enjoyed S1, haven’t seen S2 yet. But, based on Waldo’s post, it looks like I’m getting back on Paramount+.

Thanks to whoever recommended the Netflix reboot of Lost in Space. I’ve been going through an episode a day (though the temptation is there to ignore sleep and reel off multiple episodes) and it’s one of the best sci-fi TV series I’ve seen in a long time. Feels like it has a lot of Battlestar Galactica (reboot) DNA, but I’m not complaining about that.

Coincidentally, on the same day we found out the Skeeters are becoming the Space Cowboys, I landed on the season 2 episode of Lost in Space that features a creepy rendition of the Steve Miller Band song.

Are you watching S4? Any good?

I gave up after a couple of dreadful episodes. I loved the first two seasons and thought the third was interesting. But it felt from the start of this new season like the show has just collapsed.

Sad news. I won’t rush to subscribe to PM+ then, just wait for the other series to start to accumulate.

I agree on S3, although I think the wobble started in S2. That they still leapt forward - required to clean up all the continuity they’d trampled in the first two seasons - even though Control was already destroyed, made absolutely no sense. Then in S3 they introduced “the Burn” and that was hugely intriguing, only for it to have been caused by some sad kid and everything’s fine now.
