The sci-fi TV thread

I liked the Mandolorian.

The Mandalorian is awesome.

That’s why it (and Rogue One) stand out so much in the relaunch efforts.

Obvious but essential.

For a couple of years now, Elon Musk has been successfully returning his rockets to earth for a controlled landing, like something straight out of Thunderbirds.

Richard Branson has successfully “invented” a smaller, less capable, far less useful Space Shuttle, that barely reaches space before gliding back to earth.

Jeff Bezos successfully recreated Alan Shepherd’s feat of nearly 70 years ago, by riding a giant dildo to space (just), before crashing back to earth in the bell end.

Metaphor

Meanwhile, currently cheaper (just) than actually going to space, is the Disney Space hotel.

Can’t think of a better place without starting a new topic, anyway this is pretty cool.

Apple drops the trailer for “Foundation”. Weirdly for science fiction, it does not appear to have any relevance at all to our present world. :raising_hand_man:

Along similar lines, this is mesmerizing:

Just finished watching the show and really really liked it. Unfortunately Netflix decided to cancel the series as it was so expensive to produce. However another series called Super Crooks from the same comic book creator (Mark Millar) is still going forward. Millar btw is also the creator of Kingsman and Kick-Ass.

Star Trek Day was yesterday, and they dropped some news…

Discovery season 4 starts November 18.

Picard season 2 coming in February, and a new trailer:

I’m more than a little weary of Star Trek time travel plots, but this could be interesting. It looks like by traveling to our present-day Earth they’re setting up the Bell Riots which would take place in 2024. There’s a couple of hints of this in the trailer. If the Bell Riots don’t happen, it’s possible that this is where the Mirror Universe begins.

Also, the cast and characters of Strange New Worlds was revealed. It brings in some characters from the Enterprise’s later Kirk crews, both minor (Nurse Chapel, Dr. M’Benga) and major (Uhura). It also introduces a couple of new characters, including most peculiarly, a Noonien Singh. Interested to see how they tie that in, since at this point in the timeline Khan is still a popsicle on the Botany Bay.

Oh wow. I can’t wait for Strange New Worlds. I loved those guys on Disco S2, and it looks like they’ve fleshed out the rest of the crew pretty well.

Ok. I’m in.

Foundation….yeah, I’m confused.

I was this years old when I found out that Jared Harris is Richard Harris’ son.

That’s news to me.

Wow, even I learned that years ago, and I’ve never even watched The Crown. I first remember him playing John Lennon in a TV movie. He was a terrible John Lennon.

Wow! “Two of Us” That looks pretty bad but has 7 out of 10 stars on IMDB. I’ll have to check it out. I know him mostly from Mad Men and Chernobyl.

The story had potential and it wasn’t a bad movie. It’s an imagined account of a meeting between Lennon and McCartney in NYC in 1976, culminating in the Saturday Night Live show where Lorne Michaels famously, and facetiously, offered the Beatles $3,000 to appear on SNL. Lennon later said that he and McCartney were actually together in Lennon’s apartment NYC at the time, watching the show, and very nearly ran down to the studio together for a surprise performance. I found Harris to be creepy as Lennon.

He was very good in Mad Men. The scene where he punches out Pete Campbell was a highlight.

He has a very bit part in Michael Mann’s adaptation of “Last of the Mohicans” (which is a hell of a great movie) playing the British Lieutanant trying to rally colonial volunteers.

Took me several years to remember that’s where I first saw him.
