The sci-fi TV thread

I re-watched For All Mankind. I think I enjoyed it second time more than the first time through because it works really well being binged.

Not sci fi, but we’ve been watching the new All Creatures on PBS. Diana Rigg has her last performance in the second episode. It’s pretty great.

Might have to give this a look. Back in the day, there was a film and a TV series adapted from the books, which were highly entertaining (albeit requiring the viewer to be ok with a man putting his arm shoulder-deep into a cow’s v’jay). Hopefully these are similarly well done.

As an aside, I went to school with Sam West who plays Siegfried Farnon. He’s the son of Timothy West - an actor know mostly for TV commercials - and Prunela Scales - known widely for playing Sybil Fawlty.

In college I had a date with a girl who was studying pre-vet stuff at A&M, and we discussed how the curriculum included cow palpation.

I just watched season 1 over the last couple days or so. Loved it. Can’t wait for season 2. I was really just expecting a goofy fish out water story (which could have been funny in its own right), but it was much more than that.

It’s really amazing how much depth they generate out of seemingly stereotypical characters.

I have now watched it through three times. It’s fun anticipating the jokes and quips, while seeing more character detail each time.

ETA: it wasn’t until re-watching the show that I got the metaphor in the opening titles of the seats around Ted changing color.

Ted Lasso was fantastic.

Yeah, the character depth. They are not just cardboard cutouts to make funnies. You really get to know and care for these people over ten 30 minute episodes.

Just found this out:

Also, season 2 apparently just started filming. Ok, I’ll chill on the Ted Lasso posts for a bit.

Ted Lasso is #1 on my list of shows to watch.

Is Ted Lasso family friendly?

Lots of bad language, but otherwise no sex/nudity/violence. It’s actually very sweet and wholesome if you ignore all the f-bombs.

So that’s a big negative, ghost rider…

Also some sexually suggestive jokes. There’s a lot of heart and good themes, but I still would say it’s targeted for a mature audience.

Might actually be worse: I think there’s man-ass - definitely lots of locker room skin - but no lady-ass.

There was lots of free titties just watching Trading Places last night. Why would I want to swap that for man-ass?

Because it’s not the 90s any more?

Example:

So man-ass is the 21st century?
