I don’t much care for Star Wars. I’ve seen the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy but nothing since. A friend of mine said that Mandalorian is still worth watching anyway. What do y’all think?
I would say yes.
Even with 0 investment in the Star Wars lore/story, it’s a pretty damn good watch.
I would say S1 stands alone, but you will get much more out of S2 knowing some of the larger universe
I think if you have a general notion of what a Jedi is, what a stormtrooper is, and a notion general of Yoda is what, you’ll be fine in Season 2 as well. I suspect you’ll be a lot better at the Easter eggs than I was.
Rogue One is probably the best movie outside of Empire Strikes Back.
I think Rogue One > the rest.
If you think Rogue One is better than Empire, you need to quit drinking.
Or start drinking heavily. Whatever works.
Rogue One is a great movie if you ignore the first two acts. I think that probably sounds like I’m shitting on it, but compared to a lot of the movies since 1999…
I think a large part of what makes Rogue One so good is that it connects back to the original trilogy so well; something the prequels and sequels comprehensively failed to do. Thus I don’t think you can place it above any of the OT.
The OT is more than enough background for The Mandalorian. The only thing of note I can think you’ll be missing from the prequels is Boba Fett’s back story, but that’s not going to hurt your enjoyment or understanding.
There is also all the stuff from the animated series (Clone Wars and Rebels). Some of the characters introduced in The Mandalorian were very important characters in those series. Plus the dark saber. All the Star Wars nerds (and I don’t mean that as an insult) flipped out when they appeared in the Mandalorian.
It doesn’t kill you to not know this stuff, but I’m guessing it helps a little. I still haven’t watched the animated series, but I watch a lot of YouTube stuff to fill in the details (New Rockstars is a good channel for that).
I haven’t watched anything outside of the major movie releases (and I still haven’t watch The Rise of Bile in the Back of My Throat Skywalker). It didn’t stop me enjoying the show, although I am sure my enjoyment level would’ve been higher had I been up on the characters and artifacts from the other sources.
Yeah, I wouldn’t bother. If I recall, you didn’t care for The Last Jedi. I kinda liked The Last Jedi, but did not care for Rise of Skywalker, if that’s any indication. I might watch it one more time to give it another go, but we’ll see.
Rise of Skywalker is the only movie I’ve never gone back to watch. It’s an overstuffed mess
The dumb scene where the protagonists land on a planet full of people dancing while facing the same direction is the movie’s greatest legacy to me.
Planet Billy Ray of the Cyrus-5 Galaxy?
Like Limey, I’ve never gotten around to watching it. Whenever I get Disney+ I guess I should watch it before Mando, so the series can wash the taste out of my eyeballs.
I think that’s it. I wasn’t really paying attention. I was “watching” it with my son on Disney Plus just to be a completionist on the story.
My only drive to watch it is this. It is the only main title I haven’t seen.
I have Disney+ now, and it’s there…taunting me…and I click around it unable myself to even add it to my watchlist. I know how it ends, which is just stupid, ridiculous and disrespectful to the saga as a whole. I know there’s a bunch of pointless stuff leading up to it - maguffins on maguffins - plus Rey does some amazing shit that she just knows how to do.
Nope. Just can’t see myself doing it.
I hoped it would not be as bad as the reviews and was underwhelmed from there. Although, the urge to check the box would have eventually had me cave in. The one redeeming quality is it cured me from ever wanting the Skywalker saga to continue. It made me feel completely done with that.
