The opening farewell

If Pettitte had been healthy for 04, absolutely.

That pitching staff though…

Wade Miller too.

We watched the entire game in the labor and delivery room; one of us did anyway. The other is still annoyed about the joke about naming our daughter Astrolena.

I had a ticket for Game Seven. Damn.

2019 was the best Astros team I can remember. After that, I think 1986 was as good as 2017, 2018 or 1998, and certainly better than 2004 or 2005. I was too young to remember 1980, so I’ll have to rely on others whose memories are longer than my own.

I’ll also say that Charlie Kerfeld’s reaction to Billy Hatcher’s homerun in Game 6 is forever etched in my mind. Fuck the mets.

When did he make that statement?

Hatcher’s Homer in ‘86 is probably the most dramatic Astros home run ever, even if it’s not the most important. That distinction belongs to Marwin. His home run off of Jansen in ‘17 is the most important swing of the bat in Astros history.

I listened to Game 6 in ‘86 on the radio, and my heart was pounding for four hours.

He never said he wouldn’t offer a very long contract, but in an article last week, Crane acknowledged that hasn’t been done with him as Astros’ owner.

Correa turned down two extension offers during spring training: one for five years and $125 million and another for six years and $120 million. Both proposals forced Correa to specify what is obvious: he’s looking for “a big, long contract” during his first foray into free agency. According to Correa, Astros officials told him in spring training “we don’t believe in long contracts. We don’t believe in big contracts.” “I never count anything out,” Crane said on Thursday. “We haven’t done it in the past. We have a history of doing something in the neighborhood of five (years) is the most we’ve ever done since I’ve been here. Things can change. We’re not counting it out.”

I would argue Gurriel’s 3 run shot off Kershaw in game 5 has a case. We didn’t know how crazy that game would end up getting but the series felt nearly over up to that HR. Also honestly one of Joe Bucks best calls of his career imo. That “Gurrieeeeelllllll! Has. Tied it” is seered into my brain

Glenn Davis and Terry Puhl are the only guys who would crack the 17/18 lineup. And the pitching staffs are pretty much equal.

It showed his improvement on PBP. He made the big call, then let the moment breathe with crowd noise.

Oh man what a moment. The crowd went nuts and the train was going. I’ll never forget that home run.

True. But the series IS effectively over without Marwin’s. That swing pretty much single handedly preserved the that series and gave the Astros the chance to win.

Hatcher’s tied the game in the 14th of what is quite possibly the single greatest baseball game ever played.

I was there and the sound was deafening. I thought the roof might come down.

Correa’s current schtick with the watch is already tiresome for me. Once was enough, but it looks like part of the “look at me” plan now.

I honestly do not know how Crane can let him walk. Correa’s clutch ability cannot be denied, even by BP nerds, and he has a million intangible qualities. I so want Crane to offer him what he says he wants, then we’ll see if the “I want to stay stuff” was only part of the PR facade.

If it’s a late go-ahead or game-winning hit then he can tap his wrist all the way around the bases.
