The same thing happened in the 2016 cycle. As each candidate got their 15 minutes in the spotlight, people realized what a terrible president they would be and they were cast aside.
The one left was the short-fingered vulgarian who got hours of free TV coverage every day and a social media boost from Uncle Putie.

As near as I can tell, his father was a bigot but his mother made magic spaghetti and all racism and bigotry vanished from the Earth. Then there’s something about a rope bridge that I didn’t get at all and now we have rats and snakes in the freezer. Add it all up and it proves Biden is simultaneously the ruthless head of an international crime ring and a blithering idiot. It also proves that Trump is a very stable genius.
He is curiously more lucid when he describes his desire for mass arrest and incarceration of thousands of doctors and teachers. You know, because of freedom.
