In more uplifting news, House Democrats seem to have figured out that their opposite numbers are basically fucking stupid performance clowns, and are using it to their - and our - advantage.
They filed a bill back in January that was so broad and nebulous as to trigger review by about 20 House committees. Of course, the GOP-controlled committees have been too busy searching for drag queens on Hunter Bidenâs laptop, that they havenât done any actual committee work. None of them has even picked up the bill to give it a cursory reading.
House Democrats were banking on this, and now they have a Trojan horse of a bill that - by dint of Republican laziness and incompetence - has been wheeled inside the gate. Under House rules, Democrats now can use a discharge petition to bring this bill directly to the floor for a vote, bypassing committee review and the objections of the Speaker.
So whatâs the point of all this? Well Democrats have set this up so that they can completely wipe the text of the Trojan bill, and replace it with language for a clean debt ceiling increase. This means that they can free the US (and world) economy from being held hostage by the GOP.
But there is a fly in the ointment. A discharge petition to force a floor vote on this bill requires a simple majority of House reps to sign it. This means that they need to get 5 GOP reps to sign it - who will presumably also vote for the bill ensuring its passage. Are there 5 GOP reps out there sane enough or scared enough to sign the petition? Letâs hope so.
Regardless of whether this gambit succeeds or fails, this shows that Hakeem Jeffries is not fucking around. Too long have Democrats sat on their high horses while the GOP runs around pantless with a mouth full of paint chips setting the place on fire. Time to take full advantage of the GOP dumbfucks.
