I saw a great line that said ‘scratch a libertarian and you’ll find a facist’.

Favorite line I’ve seen today:

Trump’s lost in Georgia so many times the military will have to name a base after him

I’m so fucking sick and tired of Americans treating politics like it’s a fucking team sport where you blindly cheer for your favorite team no matter what they’ve done.

Want to know why Donald Trump should be in federal prison? Because he committed an act of treason against the United States of America. Want to know why it pisses me off to no end that 2.5 years after Jan. 6, 2021, everyone in Congress that participated, aided and abetted Trump’s attempted coup still holds political office? Because they, too, committed an a act of treason but still have a say in decisions that affect the future of America and the lives of many Americans moving forward.

Newsflash: It has nothing to do with which party they represent. If they were Democrats, I’d be shouting the same message and voting against all Democratic candidates in elections until the party got its collective head out of its ass and properly reformed itself.

As a human being, there is no way I could live with myself and have respect for my personal values if I supported a political party acting the way the Republican Party has over the past few years. Some of their members willingly committed acts of treason against the United States, and, to date, nothing has been done. Imagine you pulled a similar stunt at work, you would either be fired or put on indefinite leave pending the outcome of an investigation. In this case, these individuals have not only kept their jobs but continue to have a major say in decisions that affect the lives of all Americans. It’s absurd.

Completely. These people were involved in a coup against the United States. We should have learned from the Civil War that it’s not right to coddle your enemies or try to make friends with them. We should’ve treated Jeff Davis et al like we treated the Nazis: hang 'em, cremate 'em, and throw their ashes in a ditch. We could’ve avoided a lot of trouble and pain if we put the traitors in the place they belong, but instead they have statues because “history”.
Trump Republicans are evil people, there’s no other word for it. And regular Republicans (who don’t exist, really) are no different.

I’ve often thought that most of Americas political problems for the last 150 years or so can be traced back to the failure of Reconstruction. They were afraid to try Jeff Davis after the war because they thought the court might rule secession legal when he should have been hanged from a “sour apple tree” along with Lee. Military occupation of the South should have continues for another twenty years until the traitorous generation had aged out. By that time black representation would have been cemented and free and fair elections would have been commonplace.

If only they knew then what we know now.

Interesting tidbit about Georgia law: to be allowed pre-trial release, the burden is on the defendant to show that they will comply with court mandates (and the law in general); it’s not on the state to show why there is good cause to lock someone up. So a defendant is destined for jail unless they can talk their way out of it.

One of the things stated explicitly in the law is that the defendant must present no risk that they will attempt to intimidate witnesses or interfere with the administration of justice in any way. Given that Trump will likely be typing up a Troth calling the judge a serial killer or some such while being arraigned, if it were anyone other than Trump, there would be no question that he’d be detained pending trial.

Jack Smith has shown no interest in detaining Trump pre-trial. Conversely, I doubt Fani Willis would give any fucks about hauling him off to the big house without passing Go. It’s difficult to see him getting locked up, but it’s impossible to see how he can meet the standard for pre-trial release. The immovable object is going to meet the irresistible force in a Georgia courtroom some time in the next week or so.

The Electoral College is a gift from that coddling that keeps on giving.

There were plenty of people who did, and said so at the time. The terror of the early Klan and Jim Crow was predicted by those opposed to the end of the military occupation. Black people were thought to lose their voting rights and the same treasonous group of people would be back in charge. That’s exactly what happened.

In other Republican “Candidate” news, from twitter:

‘Xi Jinping should not mess with Taiwan until we have achieved semiconductor independence, until the end of my first term,’ @VivekGRamaswamy told @hughhewitt. ‘Our commitments to Taiwan…will change after that’

Strategery.

10 indictments voted out of the Fulton Co. grand jury. No detail yet, but each indictment could involve multiple charges and/or multiple defendants.

Details are expected to be made public some time this evening.

Fun fact: the grand jury voted to approve every indictment presented to them; none were voted down.

Fox has some important breaking news tonight.

They’re going to need a bigger clown car.

Yep, it’s up on NPR now.

13 more counts for
Donny RICO.

That’s around 100 felony counts against the former President. I don’t think even Trump can weasel out of all of it.

He will eventually be pardoned if they make anything stick. You can’t make up charges to try to take down a political opponent. They have strategically waited until the election is approaching to try to “get Trump.” He will eventually be offered a deal where all charges will be dropped if he never runs for political office again. He absolutely should not take it. When Trump wins again, would love to see him pardon himself and go after these crooks.

The RICO charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years. All 19 are included in the RICO charge, so all are facing for-sure jail time.

To tag every one of the 19 members of the alleged criminal enterprise, Willis only has to prove two of the 100+ acts alleged in the indictment. There are so many people charged here - who cannot be pardoned by the president - it’s going to be Flippalooza.

There is already a vast number of unindicted co-conspirators referenced in the charges that they have flipped an unknown number of participants. There’s not enough PAC money to pay for everyone’s lawyers…

My guess is one is Lindsay Graham. I’m betting he flipped.
