Unacceptable. Dad was raised Catholic. Mom and dad went to a couple churches at fort hood. Ended up episcopal. It is not the organization you participate in. It is what you do as an individual. I watched the Ashley Madison documentary on Hulu recently (it’s pretty good). It was interesting to see how the religious right lost their shit over the website, claiming it was causing people to cheat.
Here’s their logic: someone sells a thing, and a customer does a bad act with the thing, and so the seller of the thing is responsible. I don’t think they have extrapolated that concept to other “things”.

Gender fluidity and trans people are as old as humanity. Some cultures accommodate this. Western culture, at least since classical times, has not until very recently. I don’t find it surprising that Western institutions, such as medicine, education, religion and government struggle.
American history is the story of respect and recognition being extended to one marginalized group after another. Sometimes that group is enormous, such as women or Blacks. Sometimes smaller, like gays. Sometimes very small, like trans people. Whatever the time or group, the reactionary right has responded the same: attack the marginalized group in every way, up to and including violence, so that they remain powerless. Invoking the protection of children is always part of the justification for the attacks.
