The Inevitable What About The Inevitable You-Know-Who Thread Thread

School “choice” is also about draining funds away from public schools so that the poor fuckers who don’t have access to a shiny new charter school get even less of a chance at an education than they do now. This will of course be anyone outside of a major population area, meaning all the rural folk who reliably vote red.

Also, these charter schools are dogshit, so those people lucky enough to be zoned to a good public school will find it will winnow as funds are drained away, making the charter school seemingly a good option and, hey presto! No one learns nothing.

Great post. One thing the Democratic Party struggles with is talking directly to lower-class individuals in their messaging. Whereas the Republican Party sticks to their false narrative and hammers it home every chance they get, the Democratic Party doesn’t always do a great job going on the offensive to diffuse those false narratives and explaining how they can help lower-class individuals. It comes off as “elitist” sometimes, when that’s not really the case nor what they are trying to achieve. That doesn’t even account for the fact that members within the Democratic Party aren’t all willing to share consistent, unified messaging.

Agreed. Many charter schools are nothing like the private schools those with money send their children to. They aren’t places where I’d ever educate my child.

Getting back to Trump, Judge Chutkan has told him to STFU.

The defendant and defense counsel shall not disclose Sensitive Materials or their contents directly or indirectly to any person or entity other than persons employed to assist in the defense, persons who are interviewed as potential witnesses, counsel for potential witnesses, and other persons to whom the court may authorize disclosure (collectively, “Authorized Persons”). Potential witnesses and their counsel may be shown copies of Sensitive Materials as necessary to prepare the defense, but they may not retain copies without prior permission of the court.

Sensitive Materials must be maintained in the custody and control of defense counsel. Defense counsel may show or provide Sensitive Materials to the defendant as necessary to assist in preparation of the defense, and defense counsel is not required to be present while the defendant reviews Sensitive Materials. However, if defense counsel does show or provide Sensitive Materials to the defendant, defense counsel may not allow the defendant to write down any personally identifying information as identified in Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 49.1 that is contained in the Sensitive Materials.

If the defendant takes notes regarding Sensitive Materials, defense counsel must inspect those notes to ensure that the defendant has not copied down personally identifying information as identified in Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 49.1. Moreover, during any time that the defendant reviews Sensitive Materials outside of defense counsel’s presence, the defendant must not have access to any device capable of photocopying, recording, or otherwise replicating the Sensitive Materials, including a smart cellular device. Defense counsel must also ensure that all Sensitive Materials are collected and safeguarded when the defendant is no longer reviewing them.

Trump is being handled like he’s the Hamburgler being brought into a McDonald’s.

My only pushback is that it doesn’t have to be this way. My dad grew up exactly how you describe, dirt poor, raised by Florida sharecropper ‘necks, with little formal education, yet he’s always been the least racist person I know. Part of that could be his time spent in the military which may have opened his eyes to some of that, and I agree that education plays a big role. But at some point it has to stop being an excuse for being a terrible person.

I know plenty of purportedly, “educated” people who are still racist.
It’s not always an education thing as much as it is their inability to wrap their tiny brains around the notion of going through life differently, namely as a minority or marginalized individual.
Basically, they’re devoid of empathy or understanding of someone else’s journey.

It’s the price of nuance. The GOP has one constituency: straight white people (increasingly “men” rather than “people”). The Dems constituency is [checks notes] everyone else. So they have lots of different voices speaking to lots of different people.

Meanwhile, a GOP House member screams “DEATH PANELS” and gets booked immediately on Fox News.

Right. And I get that educating people goes a long way. But at some point you have to say just because you’re uneducated doesn’t excuse you from being an insufferable asshole. You’re still human.

I imagine your father’s service (for which, thanks) played a big part in it. You don’t care the color of the wrapping of the soldier next to you, you only care that he has you covered and that you are covering him.

But, yes, upbringing is not an excuse for being a racist piece of shit and I did not intend to come across as excusing it. My goal was to try to find the explanation as to how such views get perpetuated in the 21st century.

As Chris Rock said to the white people in his audience: “None of you would trade places with me…and I’m rich!”

Precisely.

I understand that. It just doesn’t help the Democratic Party always effectively communicate with that demographic.

And they’re saying that to people that don’t even have boots. I can’t remember the exact quote and Google isn’t helping, but it was maybe Will Rogers or Mencken that said something like pull yourself up by your bootstraps is most often said by the man whose father owns a large farm or general store.

our problem is the Calvinist/Puritan viewpoint that people are poor because of their own faults, that God is punishing them for something they did.

Often times hard to pull oneself up by one’s bootstraps when said bootstraps are broken, missing, etc.

Just want to pick a nit…

The whole “bootstrap” saying actually originated as a highly sarcastic saying to exemplify that we can’t, in fact, lift ourselves “up”. It’s literally an impossible task. It takes a community and a family. You can’t beat gravity on your own.

Anyone that said they did it all by themselves is an unappreciative shit.

So I’ve been a multi decade lurker/poster. I have enjoyed this board for over 20 years.

I don’t feel comfortable asserting my baseball opinion here because even though I might be an above average baseball fan. There are people here that know way more than me.

I will however assert my opinion that overtly racist/sexist/misogynistic shit should be met with consequences here. If you call Michelle Obama Michael and then IN THE SAME SENTENCE say that she’s not smart enough to write an article on her own….? FUCK YOU.

Yes, fuck you Dwad.

It has made me lurk less. This board is poisoned at the moment.
