Yes, I’m expecting that to be a riveting game. If the Mets lose, they’re going to have a very tough time winning the division.
What a ballsy move by Riley to let that ball go.
Sure is a nice 10.5 game lead you’ve got there, Mets.
Would be a shame if something happened to it.
The Mets were always going to Mets it up. Just took longer this season than most
The Mets spent 155 games in first place. That’s like leading until 2 out, nobody on in the 9th.
I have a coworker that’s a huge Mets fan. She said she almost considered calling in sick today.
If I were a Mets fan, I’d be sick every day.
I’ve watched a lot of Mets this year. More probably than Astros, because I can watch and enjoy a game without any stress whatsoever. It’s given me a greater appreciation for the in-season rest scheme the Astros seem to deploy: Showalter plays everybody pretty much every day and I feel like it’s really showing here at the end.
I think I heard a stat yesterday which said the Twins were in first place for 105 days. Now they are under .500.
If I misheard, someone will correct me.
Do you remember all the talk about the “historic” NY baseball year in progress at the start of summer? Ha.
That was Judge’s historic pursuit of the seventh most HR in a season
I had a teacher back in ‘07 who was a huge Mets fan. Early in their historic “7 games up with 17 to play” collapse he jokingly agreed to shave his trademark mustache if they missed the postseason. He looked really weird without the mustache.
I still remember the quotation I read from a random Mets fan exiting the stadium the last day of that season. “It makes you feel so stupid to have been so happy all year.” Amazing.
That’s the kind of phenomenon, I imagine, as well as the phenomenon of very exciting late regular season baseball, that we’re going to miss under the new dumbass 12-teams-in rule.
They led the division from April 24th all the way until August 10th. They’ve since proceeded to go 19-29.
Do the BBGs punish schadenfreude?
Always.
Stay hungry, stay humble.
I think that falls under the “no gloating” umbrella.
Are you admitting to causing tonight’s offensive vacuum?
No. I wasn’t the one enjoying the Mets’ futility and the Twins’ failure.
