Yes, unless the Astros win.
All these crazy machinations are BS. Cancel the season or say 2020 does not count as a regular MLB season.
would they get lots of money from showing it on tb
Iām not sure how to watch Tuberculosis, but I imagine adding more diseases wonāt win too many fans over currently.
They have a contract, already negotiated, to show their games on cable and their part of the MLB network deals. I have to believe that is null-n-void if the games are not played.
I totally understand your position. That said, if being totally honest, Iād end up watching any funky āseasonā they construct. Baseball has been a salve for this country multiple times in times of crisis and could likely be the same here. Shortened seasons, abbreviated seasons, split seasons, (almost) replacement players, alternate game sites; itās all been done and it all counts as 1) MLB baseball and 2) in the stats. Iām fine with that as one of the classic hallmarks of baseball is that its permanence is as enduring as its structural impermanence during crisis.
and if the players start getting sick? Stupid idea pandering to Trump.
This assumes thorough testing and good distancing and hygiene practice by players, of course.
Baseball simply isnāt necessary.
If it were, we wouldnāt love it as much as we do.
In lockerooms and dugouts? Sure.
bann crotch scratching and spitting?
That solution is a sop to MLB contractual obligations, similar to the scabs hired to be NFL players in the 1987 strike. Asterisks would apply to everything in 2020. This idea, one among many, was floated for feedback.
The more I think about it the more I like it.
Some baseball will be better than no baseball.
Not being booed everywhere will take the sting out of empty stadiums, too.
We would be in a division with I think all NL teams, including natural rivals Cardinals and Mets and of course the Nationals.
I am for it.
Iām a traditionalist, I hate the DH, interleague play, and home runs. I want baseball played the way it was in the deadball era.
Color me old-fashioned
Ok, Sooner.
My scout friend says the idea is crazy and will not happen.
I wonder what the television contracts look like. Are the clubs already not receiving money for broadcasts, or is there some cutoff date at which theyāll begin to get more desperate?
Iām not sure why the clubs would be receiving money for games not played. Networks arenāt getting paid for commercials not aired.
Stupid question, as I havenāt read a sports news site in a long time, but: are players getting payed during this time?
