Spring Training 2026

Figured we should get a spring training thread on the go

Joey Loperfido is once again an Astro, as Jesus Sanchez goes to Toronto in exchange.

Tomorrow is the official report date for position players. Indications were(mostly from Rome) that the Astros would like to have the infield situation settled by the time everyone reported. Running out of time for that

Cavan Biggio has received a minor league invite to Spring Training.

This cracked me up, from over the weekend:

“Earlier this month, Espada maintained, “My job is going (to be) to help Jose have the right amount of time to be off his feet.” Asked Saturday whether he would be amenable to such a setup, Altuve replied, “Not really.””

Would he even get a major league deal?

Don’t know why he would.

-0.7 WAR last year with over 400 PA and sub-Mendoza hitting stats. Dodgers might have won 2 WS last year without him on the team.

HAS to be a minor league deal with a camp invite. No chance they guarantee him any money

I guess Zach Cole is feeling good, he has 3 steals in the first 3 innings of spring

Out of pure superstition I think I need to keep shit-talking him until he stops being good.

Conforto to Cubs. Our brief potential nightmare is over.

Heard a story on a podcast about the impact of Ryan Weiss on Imai. With Weiss having experience being in a foreign country he has some understanding of what Imai is dealing with acculturating to his new team/country.

They shared a story of Imai asking Weiss what he does after he leave the facility because Imai said he was bored. Weiss offered to take him out to dinner and invited Burrows (I think) to join them. Imai reported the gesture was important to him.

The Athletic wrote that one up:

Burrows has looked good in his first couple outings. Combined 5 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts. Efficient too, averaging 13 pitches per inning.

I like Burrows quite a bit

Cosgrove might have something.

Espada confirms Hader will open the season on the IL but that he threw an encouraging bullpen yesterday.
